It is a made up word. It must be broken down to basics.

Juda, the tribal territory of his descendants which became the nucleus of David's kingdom and, after the kingdom had been divided into Israel and Judah, the southern kingdom of Judah, with Jerusalem as its center. Better known as those Hebrews in S Palestine
Phile, Greek philos which means to love

So, if you link them together you get a person that has great love for S Palestine Hebrews.

Hope this helps.

It does, thanks. Philos means loving, or dear. I often called my wife that as she was Greek. Se agapo means I love you. But don't tke it to heart.

If memory serves, Judah was one of Jacob's sons. It has been a very, very, very long since I studied it in Schul at the Temple, so I could be wrong.

What is a Judaphile, a follower of Judas? I'm serious, I don't know. It isn't in my dictionary.

As you know, I learned Greek and Latin when I was a child. It is good to see that someone else has also studied these languages. Nice to have some practice.

Just have to ask this question, are you projecting your innermost fears about yourself?

It took me a while to try and read what you wrote. I don't think I got it all, but I got the gist of it. I can no longer read well, nor write even less in Greek. It has been a very long time for me. I was never fluent, but I did learn enough in Greek school to be understood by the Greeks. My wife was Greek, and I had to learn it, attending Greek school, before she would marry me. Of course having a live in dictionary helped. So you can see how much I cared for her.

kukla means doll. That is what I always called my youngest.

I have been called many names, by 'professional' name callers, so it no longer bothers, nor affects, me. I just consider the source and proceed on my way.

Love is such a wonderful motivator! When I was on an unaccompanied tour, my husband and sons lived in Greece. Ano Voula, to be specific. I spent my weekends with them and of course being unaccompanied, I had the extra leave time (morale leave). I loved the country and the people. My husband and sons became proficient in Greek.

You got the majority of the message! So you did quite well!

I also called her kuklitsa mou which means: my little doll. Forgive my spelling, I know it is atrocious.

You are most welcome. You are a very tactful and generous man. No improvements needed in any respect!

Salty, I wanted to respond to the name-calling, but did not want to dignify the post/remark. Needless to say, some people are just incorrigible. On your worst day, you are a better man than he, or most, could ever dream of being.

I did not say anything bad to my friend. What I said in Greek: I bet that you also called her doll! This was one of the first expressions I learned. Yes, you are right on the line of David.
I see that my friend has weighed in to call you a bad name. I want to say ,one day what I think of him!

i no longer respond to any of them. All they want is to have someone, anyone, to acknowledge them. If everyone would refuse to do so, they would be forced to go elsewhere, or just keep posting their vile, rude, profane, and idiotic nonsense. I don't need to bolster their ego by naming them, you know who they are.

Agreed! Some trolls might disappear if ignored. Unfortunately, some feed off each other. :hunf:

Sigh.

Dear Ginnyt: My reference was not to you, but to the one who shall remain unnamed, from earlier in the thread. He is infamous for such remarks. I believe you incapable of such behavior...being too gracious a lady. I also believe Salty knows of whom I was speaking.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
