I appreciate that there are actually a very large number of people who are gun enthusiasts and supporters of the 2nd who are extraordinarily safe with guns. But there are careless people, there are unhinged people getting their hands on guns legally in a system that is doing very little to try to make a difference. There is a sensible voice that doesn't have a problem with the things that make sense that could make a difference on who can easily get a gun. And this gun access by little kids is a no brainer. For every responsible gun owner who already has lock boxes and does the right thing as far as keeping their kids from getting guns, there are idiots that have guns in houses with kids and they think training and telling them not to touch them is good enough.

In a state where there are no access safety laws you have hundreds of thousands of people who don't even have the ability to properly secure guns because nobody is making them do it. Here we are forced to prove we have a gun safe, and sign a statement to the effect that we do, and if a kid were shot with one of my guns I'd be prosecuted if I didn't even have the means to secure that gun. Because I am legally forced to have a gun safe, I use it.

For every 100,000 gun owners the vast majority are as safe with guns as a person can be. But if you have even 50 out of every hundred thousand who shouldn't even have a gun, we are going to have an excessively visible problem when there is even one incident per 100,000 people. It's up to the masses to weed out the problems within their numbers, to constructively be part of the things they can live with that could make a difference.

You mean all one of them in the link you provided? Accidents happen. How many kids are killed and injured by drunk drivers? How many kids die from overdoses of illegal drugs? I don't hear any cries about punishment for pushers. Accidents happen. Stupid people happen. There are 250 million adults in this country; 80-100 million of them own some 300 million firearms. Shit happens. Deal with it. You will not "get rid of guns;" you have not offered any workable "gun control" proposals that would do any good whatsoever. Your post deals with accidental shootings, and yet you castigate the NRA, an organization which has done more to promote gun safety since it's founding in 1871 than any Liberal farce you can name.

First, welcome to OPP. Second, if Conservatives want to control everything, why are Liberals the ones proposing most of the restrictive laws? We do, the GOP has gutted the DEA to where it undermined them to where they can't do anything about the distributors, it was liberal groups such as mothers against drunk drivers that have made progress there. Liberals are now working on sensible gun controls.
