Toured a museum today in St Louis,,, one of the exhibits had writing from a Wagon Train Leader,,,,in his quote was the very problem that we at OPP continually fight with and against...
"3 Weeks out in the wagon train, and we have experienced that UNIQUELY American trait, of everyone wanting to Govern, and no one wanting to be governed!!"
That struck me,,, that is the same thing we have here,, nobody wants to get told anything!
Everytime we think we have progressed, we really haven't, nothing has changed, everyone is still fighting and fussing and still moving along.

That's why we call it freedom. You are free to do anything you feel like doing as long as it doesn't interfere with someone else. You say we can't get anything done that way and we all need to get along. Well, how about WWII?? Didn't we get something done then? How about if we get this government out of our lives and let us live our own for once and see just where that leads us. After all, we were doing just find until you progressives started telling everyone how to live their lives. Until 1913 when you conned us into passing the tax laws and the FED, we got along great. We didn't have the government stealing our money and we had very little debt. Since then, things have kind of gone downhill, but then you may not agree with that statement, but that's OK too, since that is part of being free. If you don't like freedom, there are other places that have much less then we do and are more then willing to tell you how to live your life. Feel free to move to any one of them. See, that is also called freedom. If you don't like it here, you can always leave.
I'm not a progressive Ed,,,, just impressed with how similar things were, even back then,,, agree about the govt, but it is interesting that that trait of throwing off the govt control is what brings people here.

I think it honorable of you to admit defeat. Not many people would be willing to admit that "progressives" ( what ever they are ) are smarter and stronger than everyone else. Kudos!
He didn't say that,,, recalibrate your contact lens, or see a Dr about the cranio-anal inversion,,,,,

He wasn't a Marine, so how could he possibly understand cranio-anal inversion?

Please notice just who started demeaning who with this post. This is an example of you throwing someone under the bus just because they don't agree with you.

The problem as I see it is people don't mind the Government telling people what to do just as long as it other people that's being told what to do. One side doesn't mind the Government telling gay people they can't get married. They don't mind the Government telling single mothers they can't have an abortion and they should get married and make it own they own with no help from the rest of us. They don't mind the Government telling people they should carry a gun or they shouldn't say these things or those words. So it's more of have the Government tell those people to act like us.

That's why everyone should have their own personal Government. That way they still have someone to blame stuff on, but get to do as they please.
Everyone pretty much agrees about what needs to be done, but nobody wants to do it. More tax, as long as I don't have to pay it. Less Government, but keep enough to do what I want done. Spend less money, but keep spending on the stuff I want.
That is actually very good!!
The only problem is that the politician behind the curtain realizes and exploits that desire, until we are paying for so much that we don't even know what it is, and the opportunity for corruption and stealing is immense and very enriching, so the govt needs to do all things for everyone or no things for anyone.
Provide for the common defense,, promote the general welfare, and prospects of liberty.

what you need to do first is learn the difference between what the federal gov't can do and what the state gov't can do

Yes...provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and promote the prospects of liberty. Problem""the govt. needs to do all things for everyone or no things for anyone"...or actually, somewhere in between those two extremes??! And it's that "somewhere in between" that is normal politics and it's the "all things" and "no things" that are extreme politics. I would urge right wing extremists to look to the "somewhere in between" instead of absolutes in politics.

Conversely Jon, I would suggest the left wing look at somewhere in between. It has to be their way or not at all. "I will not negotiate with the Congress on paying the nations bills" Obama on raising the debt limit. "I have and pen and a phone, and will do whatever is necessary to move the country forward" Obama's SOTU address.
So, who is not willing to look at "somewhere in between"?
