I don't disagree with your premise, but there are many things that are illegal that are not necessarily wrong.

Prohibition, natural remedies for disease prevention, selling lemonade outside your own house, any type of gun "control", etc, are examples.

All the above is true and that's precisely why we need Judaeo-Christian morals to help us.

I have always thought that in some respect 'the law is an ass' precisely because laws are contrived by lawyers who are convinced they know more about every damned thing than we do. And almost ALL CONGRESSPEOPLE are lawyers.

There...

Problem solved.

Congress should pass a law making it illegal to rain on the 4th of July. It would help everyone in this country have fun and celebrate.

If the assault weapon ban was still in effect he would have been prevented from obtaining the gun or high capacity magazines he used.

Yeah...

Like they eliminated illegal drugs by banning them... That worked great.

Now if they'd just ban rape and murder and assault, we could get rid of policemen.

Didn't you know Dave, if it's banned you cant get it. Just ask a moronic liberal. I mean here on the Gulf Coast it's illegal to keep certain fish out of season so no one does it.

Sure he would. Wanna buy a bridge in Brooklyn? I have one for sale this week. The "ban" you are talking about simply banned military lookalikes. There were millions of high capacity mags that were unaffected by the ban. You could not buy a rifle with a pistol grip, but you could buy the same rifle with a less military look.
Guess which one was legal? Guess which one still functioned the same and accepted the same magazines?
Had the Air Force done it's job and reported his problems to the FBI, as they were required to by Federal Law, he could not have legally obtained or possessed these weapons.
You seem to think that passing a law means people will obey it. Drugs are illegal. So is murder with whatever weapon. It's a good thing we have bans on those things so they don't happen. Don't you agree?

This country must BEGIN the long, hard trek towards rational gun policy. The current situation of mass shootings and the even more
prevalent inner city daily murders result inevitably from the notion that "just anyone" can have access to firearms. Wait, you say - there
are already legal restrictions on gun ownership. But realistically and from a common sense perspective, with over 300 million firearms
in the United States, "just anyone" can quite easily, with minimum trouble and expense, obtain what he wants.
Next step in the progression - when "just anyone" can access a weapon, the worst among us will not only DO SO, but will use their
weapon(s) for nefarious purposes which are not in the best interests of anyone.
The solution I suggest, of allowing only licensed and regulated individuals to possess guns, will require a sea change in many peoples'
attitudes. It will not happen in my lifetime, and maybe not for a century. I am a very conservative 79 year old white man, and retired
attorney. I have personally lived through and observed the deterioration of safety from firearm death in my medium-sized Southern city
go, quite literally, from a firearm murder being front page headline news, to there being almost daily killings on the streets and in the
homes and apartments of the inner city and nearby areas.
The gun insanity in the USA is completely unparalleled in modern First World industrialized societies. The Second Amendment has been
distorted, even by the Supreme Court, such that the current out-of-control situation on the streets (witness, e.g., Chicago, New Orleans,
Newark) is lived (and died) every day.
When "just anyone" has access to firearms, the worst among us will gain such access, and use them for ill.
I personally own seven guns of various types, and am a lifelong hunter and outdoorsman. I know gun insanity when I see it. I see it
every day.
Please don't play the "we need guns to protect us from the Government" card. That is a stupid and incorrect assertion.
If there are no more restraints on gun access than at present, then the Second Amendment needs to be changed to require strict licensing
and regulation.

Being an attorney I am sure you understand many of our concerns about an over reaching tyrannical government. In normal times the over reaching arm of the government does not even show up on my radar. Who knows what a liberal future may bring. I never thought I'd see the day where a high school football team isn't allowed to pray before a game. Also being an attorney you do realize if only registered and licensed individuals can own guns the only people that will abide by that law are non-criminals. The bad guys will still have guns. Matter of fact I believe you would create a thriving black market. Look, I feel your frustration. I believe the world is gradually being covered in darkness. No man made law is going to stop this. we ain't all that. A sharp turn to morality and away from the me, me generation is the only way. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen. Especially if the left gets it's way.
