Touche'! Game, Set, and Match!
tHEY CAN'T READ, tough!! You are not to old to learn. It is their choice not to be able to read!! Let us call a spade a shovel and move on. Like the NFL protest on your own time, I don't care what you make, what you believe or what you want. I PAY to see you preform not watch your dip shit demands. If you don't like it here you are free to move to a country more to your liking and you can afford to do that. I saw a list of the NFL teams and the number of arrests made by team for the last 6 years. No wonder they want to demonstrare about police. If you don't like being arrested, DON'T BREAK THE LAW!!!! Lord, what a deep, provoking thought!!!

Steven Camarota of the Center for Immigration Studies says that, because immigration has been so high in the US for so many years, an estimated 66 million people across America do not speak English in their homes. The huge number of immigrants has overwhelmed the assimilation process. -GEG

I have come to know that many Hispanics actually DO speak English and understand it but wouldn't lower themselves to speak it. For many of the illegals and even many who have been here for twenty years, it is like a religious language.

I agree most of the teachers use to care for the future of our kids and some still do, but I think more than most are more concerned about their own future. They also want to teach kids their morals more than the sciences.
In the past, people wanted their kids to learn and felt it was sos important, that teachers didn't have to be any good. Literally.

Won't lower themselves? Then let them move back to where they came from so they won't have to lower themselves.

People also took the time to spend with their kids and help them with their homework.

Exactly. But really, it was about expectations. Parents expected their kids to learn and teachers weren't blamed for their failure to learn. Teachers would give real grades and kids would get punished for bad ones. Kids are not punished for bad grades now a days. It might hurt their precious little ego's and self images.

That is truly the impression I get. Many will emphasize the "true" pronunciations to the point to where one can't distinguish between a D and a TH or even hear many of the consonants, and give the stink eye to those who simply can't hear the nuances of their version of Spanish. In my opinion, they look down on English in much the same way that Londoners look down on the various accents of others in England. Ever seen a proper Londoner express their disgust with the "Brummy", accent, of those from Birmingham?? Many Mexicans have much the same look when confronted by those of us who don't speak much in the way of Spanish. And they are the very ones who might be here 20 years and still refuse to speak English.
They also like it that they can, in essence, talk about Americans behind their backs while standing right in front of them. I have witnessed many a time when this was going on and the person they thought didn't know Spanish actually did. That is an enjoyable sight to behold when the ones being spoken of come forth with the fact that they, too, speak Spanish. Truly hilarious!

Both of my kids took Spanish in high school and college and I picked up a little from them and when I lived in Texas. I love it when we go out to eat and they speak in Spanish thinking we have no idea what they are saying. Also, why should they learn English when almost everything is in English and Spanish or they have the option of listening to or reading in Spanish.
and English as a second language in schools...where and when did that become the norm?
How about full immersion and assimilation into the language, culture and country from which you benefit and which protects your freedoms and liberty.
.
Back in the late 50's and early 60's we were given the choice of learning Spanish or French. Before that Latin was included but dropped hench in my time "The forgotten language". We also had to do music, a shop, wood, electric, mechanical, home eck, etc. What we need is to bring back classes for trades with less empaphtis on everyone doing social education. Mike
