Nah...the states are too close to the problem. Thate really would be the foxes watching 50 henhouses. I don't see any reason why the federal government couldn't do it. I think the feds would be more objective. You're paranoid.

Just remember, that these issues BELONG at state level - besides that, states are too close to screw up too badly - we citizens can readily get to our state capital. Not so with DC.

Some illegals use snap to buy papaya then carve em to look like pineapples selling door to door and doubling there money. You aren't supposed to get cash for benefits (food) free enterprise? I dont think that's what we intended. Gotta give em credit for ingenuity however misplaced.

Its quite good. Only the yellow fruit is carved and then they pit a stick on it like a popsicle. Little kids love em. American kids could learn a lesson and eat those instead of from the good humor mans truck. I'm not making this up.

Not really CWO. If all federal programs were stopped, and the states and counties took over the welfare, much waste and fraud would be eliminated. I believe that most of the truly needy would receive better than they get now.

Along with the much needed reforms. Able bodied persons should be required to perform a public service for the freebee's and every one of them should be required to pass a drug test prior to disbursement....
This alone would weed out better than 50% of them. They should also have to pass drug testing to qualify and stay in public housing....

Did you hear Obama talking to O'Reilly? He equated the brave members of the Armed Forces getting the GI Bill with those getting welfare.

I agree, banjo. One thing I have been very consistent about on this forum is my desire to see the federal government THOROUGHLY investigate the fraud and abuse occurring with our welfare programs. I think the programs themselves have merit when they operate the way they were intended, but too many people today are getting away with abusing the system.

Eligibility rules for Social Security disability, for example, state:

"To qualify for disability benefits, you must be so severely impaired, physically or mentally, that you cannot perform any substantial gainful work. The impairment must be expected to last at least 12 months or result in death and based on medical evidence. Disability benefits are not payable to people disabled solely due to alcoholism or drug addition."

Yet I know of at least 4 individuals collecting SSDI who do not meet those criteria, and I bet a lot of OPP participants do, too. Lots of abuse going on with food stamps, too, and not just by illegal aliens.

I don't care if it costs BILLIONS to ferret out the abusers and cheaters, I think we would still save a lot of taxpayer money.

Yes we need to take care of truely disabled people, but I know one girl only
22 years old who faked a mental illness so convincingly she gets food stamps, WIC, section 8, and SSDI. Trust me, she is not crazy and perfectly capable of working. Instead, she sells crack for a living. And she's white.

That would be fine if the bulk of the money wasn't coming from the federal government. If states want to fund their own programs and oversee them themselves, I see nothing wrong with that. You don't think states have bureaucrats, too?

Regardless of who does the investigating, it needs to be done, and it's not being done properly now. I don't really care who does it. Just get it done! It would save taxpayers billions!

You and I and others on this forum could sit down and sensibly do extreme cuts in the spending coming from DC, and we could do it without HURTING anyone. We could cut expenditures congress and the various agencies, bureaus, etc make on materials. We could close down the congressional barbershop. We could make the congressional dining room less affluent and wasteful. We could cut the numbers of personnel each politician keeps on the payroll and do it by attrition. We could combine various programs - I saw somewhere that there are something like 13 separate welfare programs the feds operate - if true that is preposterous. The problem is that politicians from both sides of the aisle do not WANT these cuts, and they CERTAINLY don't want to spend their precious time doing it!

I've had it with this circus we call a government. Anything that can't function any better than this has no business writing laws for the rest of us.
