Watching the news today I saw that when Congress voted for the comprehensive anti-apartheid act during Reagan's presidency, Reagan vetoed it. The Congress than overrode his veto and the bill was passed.

This shows an aspect of Reagan that I have always believed -- that he was really a mean-spirited person, happy to be on the top of the heap, but non-caring about those on the bottom.

If you've always believed it then what would be the point of trying to convince you otherwise?

Sanctions against aparthied helped end it-DeKerk said so himself-"we can't stand outside the community of nations."
Reagan also sidestepped congressional prohibition against the Contras-those Miami-based drug dealers he compared to "Our Founding Fathers."

Reagan was a shill for a cabal of rich white guys who nearly ran the entire economy into the ground by creating a false economic theory-"supply side trickle down economics."

Reagan himself was merely a spokesman for GE He sold his fellow actors out to the major studios for a mere $200,000 when he was head of the Screen Actor's Guild and the studio wanted to end a strike.

Funny how some of you claim sanctions against Iran are needed but say sanctions against the white-minority government of SA weren't needed. It doesn't matter-it was law and Reagan refused to obey that laws of Congress-just like you claim is happening today. What's different, except that Obama isn't actually using subterfuge, as did Reagan, to side step the laws of Congress?

Our allies objected to the invasion of Grenada-Maggie Thatcher told Reagan that the island's airport was for tourism and that Britain was footing half the bill. The Germans objected when four of their sailors were killed by mines laid by the CIA in the harbor of Nicaragua, a nation with which we weren't at war. Reagan refused to abide by UN requests to stop hostile actions against Nicaragua. Danny Ortega handed over power when he lost the election-something Reagan said would never happen.

I', puzzled over this hatred of Obama when the sins of his predecessors are every bit as bad, or in the case of Reagan and Bush II, much worse. Where were you back then? Quiet little no-nothings?

And the comprehensive anti-apartheid act did help the establishment of freedom, didn't it ? Are other people's freedom important to you -- or just your own ?

and yet when he got in power, he forgave and worked towards national reconciliation and peaceful co-existence. As imperfect as the new SA is, and as much Mandela's goals have been left unfulfilled. And he stepped aside after one term-another indication of Mandela's greatness. he refused a partial pardon and never denounced armed struggle because the white SA government wouldn't do the same. Proxy wars fought against SA's neigbhors, with the help of the Reagan administration (Sambivi was one) killed more than a million people.

Why would you renounced violence when someone's got a gun pointed at your head?

I've always wondered what kind of troglodyte would try and negate the greatness that was Nelson Mandela-I guess I know-the same folks that just can't stand to have a black man in the White House.

If one was to look at where the money is & isn't Most would say that it is where the money is would seem to point to who's the thief.

One day you may come to & it will be come clear that what you learned in school or heard is not quite like it turns out down on the street. The game is played with a stacked deck.

Are you sure that the cards being dealt to are the cards you deserve?

Yeah, I needed a shower after Reagan mined Nicaraguan harbors. Or after he broke South African sanctions. Or passed of his "supply side" trickle down economics as economic policy

Difference between this and "Obama's a Muslim, not born in America" shit is that it's true.Check the facts yourself.

Mining Nicaraguan harbors, circumventing SA sanctions, the entire Ollie North shadow government (and North had the gall to testify to his crimes before Congress in a USMC uniform) and Reagan's sell out of the Screen Actor's Guild-it's all there.

Or even his deficit spending. "Deficits don't matter" Ronald Wilson Reagan, 1983. Unless there's a Democrat in the White House.

We all give permission for use of our tax dollars every time we go to the ballot box. If your side looses, you wait until the next election or go elsewhere. We live in a society of consent, one where we agree to live by society's rules or suffer the consequences.

Besides, the biggest welfare queens in this country are the big oil (oil depletion allowance) and big agriculture (billions in ag subsides to ADM and Tyson foods while family farmers go broke.) Why are you not offended by your tax dollars being used to enhance the lifestyles of the wealthy oligarchy? My problem is that the ADMs and Tyson Foods of this country seem to get the goodies no matter who is in office.

Nobody's stealing from you, except perhaps for ADM and Tyson. You can vote at the ballot box or vote with your feet. I prefer to stand and change the system, albeit in vastly different ways than you speak of.

I don't pity my self. I have found a way of life & have not joined the Right Wing to get by. I meet those I deal with in life head on & treat those I deal with with the respect they deserve.

But I don't buy the kind of crap that that is being pushed by some. That getting what you deserve is taking. That it is only from the kindness from those that have the most that you get any thing.

You live in this life just as I do. But you choose to feel that your well being comes from those that do not have your best interests at heart.

One day you may awaken & realize that it is the being in side your soul that is what really matters in life. You do not need to drink any kool-aid to get by just fine.
