In the context of this discussion the meaning is the same, except "founding fathers" includes an oblique exclusion of the role women played in our country's founding. Who do you think made it possible for the writers of the Constitution to function both at home and while away. Women made that possible and whether or not "founders" is feminist or not, I can't see why anyone would not want to use a word that is more inclusive.

Wait, I do see why. Those who are afraid of losing their patriarchal power hate words that are inclusive of women.

Women may have been a extraneous part of this country but they did not form the bond of men that produced the Constitution.

No matter what term is used, they're still men, hence founding fathers. Women did a lot of undercover work and stood behind their men to allow them to do their jobs and do it they did...luckily for all later generations including this generation. It's a term of respect if nothing else and those men may be dead and gone but they still deserve respect.

Great statement from a lady.

San Diego to staff: ‘Founding fathers’ is biased, should not be used

Freedom_of_Thought_Ben_FranklinIt seems the city of San Diego, California, is rushing down the path of political correctness with a new manual that tells employees what they can and can’t say.

Among the phrases that could get employees in trouble: “Founding fathers.” As in George Washington, John Adams, etc.

According to a section on “Bias-Free Language,” the term “founders” should be used instead.

Other phrases no longer welcome include “the common man,” “manmade” and “man up,” the Pacific Justice Institute said.

PJI added:

In response, the Pacific Justice Institute sent a letter to Mayor Kevin Faulconer late Monday calling for the guidelines to be rescinded. In the letter, PJI attorney Matthew McReynolds notes that more than 1,500 Supreme Court and lower court decisions have directly invoked the Founding Fathers. The letter quotes several examples from landmark cases. Under the guidelines, legal staff are discouraged from quoting these decisions.

Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, noted, “At a time set aside to honor American icons to whom we owe our constitutional freedoms, it is offensive and indefensible that the City of San Diego is directing employees not to even mention the Founding Fathers. We are calling on the mayor to immediately retract these guidelines and reassure city employees that they will not be punished for being patriotic. We cannot allow this type of censorship and PC insanity to destroy our free speech.”

PJI also offered to represent any city employee punished for their patriotic expression — free of charge.

This is what you get with liberalism, and the answer is simple — get rid of every single liberal in government.

I sent an email to the mayor's office yesterday and received a same day reply stating that common sense was immediately being restored and that politically correctness had managed to run amuck. I believe that reading between the lines someone's job was in serious jeopardy as well it should.

If the term Founding Fathers is outlawed, you may be living in a nation founded by geniuses and run by idiots.

I agree in principle TexCan. Especially when adding or omitting a word materially changes the meaning of what we are saying.

In this particular case I really have no vested personal interest one way or the other. But I am aware that for some, removing the word "fathers" creates a description that is devoid of patriarchal overtones and thus more comfortable. It's certainly no skin off my nose to remove "fathers". In no way does doing so suggest the framers of the Constitution or Declaration of Independence were not men. We all know they were. But we all also know that women have been systematically excluded from getting credit for their contribution to the early formation of our country, and I think anything that furthers recognizing the value of women is a good thing.

Awe, so now we're supposed to re-write history so everyone, including women, people of politically preferred and protected pigmentation, moonbats, et al feel all comfortable and included? That is pure PC bullshit run amok and you, paulpp, are a moonbat pussy.

I think I read the answer to your question further down in the thread. Of course, not all liberals are women so your question has validity, but out there in Commifornia there are plenty of women of the feminist persuasion who don't want to hear that the founders were men. They were all men unless some women signed the Document with male names and attended the meetings that summer as men although they might have been some women. The stupidity that Madison referred to when he said that all 55 were men is really something. I have read his book about the meetings and saw no reference to any women being there.

It is feminists that are causing all this crap. One of them even said the other day that there is a special place in Hell for women who vote against Hillary. Does that make you wonder about all this feminism that is coming back?
I think I read the answer to your question further... (show quote)

The Declaration and Constitution were signed only by men. Franklin was rather a swinger tho, and women played a BIG part of his life. Jefferson and Washington were pretty conservative that way, even including Sally Hemmings -Thomas Jefferson connection.
