Life IS a delusion! LOL!
What are the other six abominations?
And, just curious, back in the slave days, how would you have viewed the country. Would slavery also be a trait of a dying nation? Certainly the civil war was a killing disease.
And hello! by the way.
1) Obama
2) Biden
3) Hillary Clinton...
Shall I go on?
Hi there my friend and, joyous independence to you!
Us married codgers only celebrate the Nation's, you rascals double-dip by getting blotto on the 4th and then, stay independent all year long!
Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
So now, being drunk enough to attempt to answer your hypothetical in my normal, unabashed and truthful manner... you want me to astral project myself backwards to the 1800s to opine on the issue of slavery, is that right?
I know not what delusional drink you are swilling but, if it'll get me asking users on here those kind of questions, I need me a gallon or two.

Choices, choices, choices.
Does my friend mean view slavery as a Yankee, A Rebel without a cause perhaps?
Rich southern plantation owner or, a close in-law to "Honest Abe" with more slaves than God?
Maybe a believer in the Word of God orrrrrrrrrr just the bloodthirsty, godless, oft drunken, Irish Viking you see before you today?
Can you see my dilemma?
All of these Rocks can be left unturned or, they can all have points of view that would vary dramatically, just like any ol' Rock living in America today.
Let's pretend I am a believer and, a drunken, Irish Viking... no real stretch there.
I would see slavery just like I see abortion (murder), marriage to your homo bunkmate down at the "All Queer Coral" or, any other legalized wrong.
On principle alone, I hope I would (assuming I had to pick a side) have fled to the North if a southerner then or, wore the Union Blue if a Viking born in Pennsylvania like I am.
Slavery was against the dignity God bestowed upon every man and, this may come as a surprise to you BUT, if I saw a homosexual being ganged up on by bullies, I would jump in to render my assistance. Not because he was a homo but, because he was a human being.
God told us two VERY important things, these are the MOST important commandments in His Word according to Him.
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
Now slavery was so repugnant and morally reprehensible it divided a nation and pit brother against brother to see it abolished.
So in answer to your question, NO I wouldn't have viewed slavery as a trait of a dying nation.
There were enough people that knew right from wrong back then and, they were willing to lay their lives down to defend their belief!
I see no such outrage today over murder of the innocent and, the wicked and perverse travesty being pedalled as same-sex marriage rights.
At least not the kind of outrage that there was during America's history of cruel slavery.
That's why America is dying, evil is winning this war and, there are none righteous enough to fight it.
Understand?
Now please answer me this...
If there were to be another civil war but this time it was over the liberal laws of our nation relating to abortion and/or the assault on God's design for mankind, who's side would you be on?
Assume North is UP and South is Down.
No need to ask me that question...
The more things change, the more they really stay the same!
God bless and have a safe and fun holiday weekend!
