Yep, they are telling teachers to teach nothing about the Civil War, but they want to keep the Gettysburg Address in the books. How in hell does a kid learn what the words are about without studying about that and other battles? Well, of course, they aren't supposed to learn anything.

The quote attributed to Common Core by the article didn't say not to teach history.
Last I heard, American students rank 10th among countries in science and math. Instead of posting what doesn't work, do you have any ideas that do?

No , they told them HOW to teach history . They are 17th in science and 19th in math . What will work is talking the billions the government takes from schools to pay for Common Core and the Dept. of Education and putting the money back into local school classrooms . Doctors , lawyers , engineers all have craft organizations paid for by the members . Why does education have an expensive government entity ? The government takeover of public education is a complete failure to the students . Common Core is just another area of our lives the government wants control over . Educators were never consulted in the curriculum , just the Bill Gates billions and the liberal agenda .
Emperor Obama now tells us what to buy ( insurance ) and what to teach our children . Disgraceful . A political motivated agenda plain and simple .

yes,it's not that difficult. Be a parent, be responsible for your children's education. Home school your kids if at all possible. Don't depend on the federal government or Hollywood to educate your children. Both are full of nothing but make believe and lies.
You had the kids, now take responsibility for them and be a parent instead of thinking of them as another raise in your welfare check.

The linked article is a total distortion of "Common Core" taken out of context. The "Gettysburg Address" lesson teaches the speech as an English lesson emphasizing its poetic qualities, renowned throughout the world. The students already know about the Civil War. Emphasizing the battle or its result would distract from the speech, which has nothing to with the course of the battle.

Common Core is the only hope our nation has to keep up with the rest of the world. Education has to be taken out of the hands of people who believe in witchcraft but not in evolution.

Attend a local school board meeting and you will see just what people think of Common Core . It was a leveraged buyout by Gates and the liberal agenda . Accept Common Core dollars or face funding cuts .

What if the parents are clueless? Why hire teachers at all? This constant "modifying" of curriculum is crazy. Every time a new Phd in education is made, a different lesson/approach is born. Basic math and science hasn't changed. History shouldn't be changed, and English is still spoken and written. Going back to 50 year old lesson plans might be in order.

It has become too common to hire young people with high school diplomas as well as secondary educations who cannot make change, construct sentences, spell. One of our latest hires had to be shown the basics of filing customer work orders. This individual
generated an equipment upgrade from a computer alert recently.
Upgrade was spelled "uparge." This person came with references.

Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.

 Wow, I didn't realize the education system was so bad that it dropped from 10th(?), to 19th (?), to 30th(?), in less than five minutes, and half a page of OPP!

I guess it depends upon the source(s)!

 I agree, but, is it any worse to replace "revisionist" history with another form of "revisionist" history? There will always be those who oppose history, or other subjects, being taught in a version incompatible with their own.

A lot of history is distorted, or left out...of all curriculums.
We are usually presented with a reasonable median, at best!

One persons' t***h is anothers' fiction. :?

I see more and more that I will teach my grandchild myself on the history of this country and will not send him to a public school
