A grandfather's letter to his granddaughter

Guess you heard that 68% of "the youth v**e" went to Obama. My granddaughter called this morning to tell me she was one of them.
I replied with this e-mail: The e******n of Obama comes down to this. Your grandmother and I, your mother and other productive wage earning tax payers will have their taxes increased and that means less income. Less income means we will have to cut back on basic purchases, gifts and handouts. That includes firing the Hispanic lady who cleans our house twice a month. She just lost her job. We can't afford her anymore.
What is the economic effect of Obama's e******n on you personally? Over the years, your grandmother and I have given you thousands of dollars in food, housing, cash, clothing, gifts, etc., etc. By your v**e, you have chosen another family over ours for help. So in the future, if you need assistance with your rent, money for gas, tires for you car, someone to bring you lunch, etc., call 202-456-1111. That's the telephone number for the Office of the President of the United States. I'm sure Mr. Obama will be happy to send a check from his personal or business accounts or leave cash in an envelope taped to his front door.
It's like this. Those who v**e for the president should consider what the impact of an e******n will be on the nation as a whole and not just be concerned with what they can get for themselves (welfare, etc.). What Obama v**ers don't seem to realize is that the government's money comes from taxes collected from tax paying families. Raising taxes on productive people means they will have less money to spend on their families.
Congratulations on your choice. For future reference, you might attempt to add up all you've received from us, your mom, Mike's parents and others and compare it to what you expect to get over the next four years from Mr. Obama.
To congratulate Mr. Obama and to make sure you're on the list for handouts , write to:
The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW Washington , DC 20500
Love you, Lauren, but call the number listed above when you need help. Granddad

My elder daughter v**ed for Gary Johnson, as did I. Mitt Romney was not exactly an outstanding choice by the GOP leadership. He was little different from President Obama and worse, he was anti-choice on a number of issues important to people like me and my daughters.

I hope you are still comfortable with your choice of Gary Johnson. Depending what state you are from it may not have influence the e******n one way or the other. Romney was not my choice either, but I felt he was better than the usurper in chief, but not enough of us felt that way.

Who do you think would make a good p**********l candidate for the GOP and have a chance of winning? It's early, but I like Cruz right now. Rubio is not eligible according to Article 2 of the Constitution. Rand Paul maybe, I like some things he says. Not sure about his position on immigration. I say if they're here illegally round them up and ship them back and seal the border so they can't get back easily.

The way I see it, it comes down to one of two people. Rand Paul, or Ben Carson. Doctor Carson was asked who he liked and he answered that Rand Paul would be his choice. I could settle for either of them.

As for the i*****l i*******ts, they only come here to get jobs and make money. Very few of them benefit from welfare. They make better workers than most US citizens and they are cheaper for businesses to hire.
Why are they cheaper to hire? Because businesses can hire them as contract workers and never have to pay all the things to the government that they would have to pay a US citizen.

They suffer a great deal of abuse because of their illegal status. This abuse starts the second they decide to set out to get into the United States and well after. While many of them would benefit from being here legally, a great deal of their leverage over legal citizens would be lost because their labour would then be just as expensive for businesses as it is to hire legal citizens. It speaks volumes about the working conditions in Mexico and points further south that any of them come here at all.

This brings one other thing to mind. The very few young men that tried to hire on at the fabrication shop I was running could deal with fractions. Even less knew how to read a measuring tape or ruler and even fewer knew anything at all about drawings. The majority of them could not even read a map. On the other hand, most of the i******s could do all three or at least get by, even though they did not speak English at all.

We have a real problem with our workforce because our school systems are turning out illiterate, innumerate and overweight fools who do not want to get off the couch or out of the airconditioning. Did I mention that most of them are lazy? No, I didn't did I? The facts are hard, but they are the facts. I have been in a position to see it first hand.

I don't know enough about Ben Carson to have an opinion yet. I will have to see what Rand Paul does with the immigration thing.

What a great letter - and such a simple way of showing a young family member how actions and v**es have consequences. The grandfather could have argued with her all day and not made a dent. This is THE appropriate way to demonstrate the principle of cause and effect.
Thanks for a great post! :D

I spent 50 years v****g for party because I trusted it ! Go figure! Who in their right mind would do that these days? Seriously.

I now v**e for ONE THING: Individual freedom. Any politician who wants to write a law is OUT as far as I am concerned. Any politician who wants to rescind a law, I am for. I v**e my conscience, and I feel that if every American would v**e his conscience we wouldn't be in the mess we are now in.

It may sound simplistic, but it works and is a worthy ideal, a thing in short supply in today's America.

So you are over 71? Yep, because you weren't allowed to v**e till you were 21 unlike today. I v**ed for one party for President for over 20 years and then realized that the man they nominated for President was a self-admitted socialist. I changed parties that year and have never found a candidate from that party who I didn't see as more socialist than I could stand. Can you guess what party I switched to in 1972?

Yep, I'm 74, registered and always v**ed Republican because their party planks were superior to the Democrat planks. Eventually, however, I realized the pubbies were little more than "yes men" to the Democrats, scared of their shadows, fearful of hurting someone's feelings. I dropped out of the Party and joined the Libertarian Party. I don't agree with all it stands for either, but they are big on individual freedoms, and that appeals to me. Also they aren't afraid of their own shadows. Thanks for your comments.

I grew up in a mixed party family and just took on the Democrats because my dad had never v**ed for anything else. I wanted to change my v**e in 1956, my first year because I got to 21 too late. I was in Italy with the US Army at the time and was really glad to v**e for the first time and v**ed for Stephenson, since he was a Democrat. Then I found out that he was a dove and wished I could take that v**e back. It was much grander to get to v**e for Nixon in 1972 because McGovern had promised a group of California welfare people, delegates btw, that he would work for a $5600 guaranteed wage for everybody. Stood right there on that stairway and made that promise in front of the TV cameras. Have I heard that kind of promises being made lately?

I never v**e for any third party candidate since I know he can't win. I want my v**e to count and that determines who I v**e for for President.

Roy, I really wish we could sit down and talk about your last paragraph and my comment about v****g principle. We could have a very productive session, I'll bet. I think what I am saying, is that if everyone v**ed his principles, or one single selected principle, we'd get the best man into the White House every time, without fail. Problem is that getting everyone to do any particular thing is darned near impossible without force - and force is the democrat's tool......if you can't get people to go along with your demands, pass a law and the cops will FORCE them to go along with your demands.

That's how the democrats get everything they want, and it isn't a pretty sight.

I think that most of Romney's 47%, who v**ed, v**ed one principle and of course that would be anything they could get for free from the government. They don't pay income taxes but do get all kinds of goodies from the government.

Principles mean a lot to me but when it comes to v****g for President I just can't let that get in my way. I only v**e for one of the candidates who has a chance to win the e******n. In the long run none of the Democrats care about principle other than when it keeps folks from v****g for a GOP candidate.

I remember studying that e******n of 1996 quite a bit when I was scoring math scores for the state of NJ back in the early years of this century and finding that the little man with ears really did cost Dole the e******n. I was sure that would happen, and it did. All those 8th graders from NJ seemed to really be the children of Clinton loving Democrat parents, judging from their comments on that one question which is all we scored.

That was an e******n with 2 lousy major party candidates and one effective, but lousy, independent candidate. The independent could have won had not party people stuck with the Rep. party, leaving the most lousy candidate the winner without a majority, and he did tremendous damage to the Presidency and to America. Perot didn't lose for Dole, however. Dole lost for Dole. Don't misunderstand me - I liked Dole, but not for President, though I wasted my v**e for him. I have regretted doing so ever since.
