Humans ARE genetically programed for violence, selfishness etc. Call it original sin if you like. Violence sells because, deep down, we wish it were ourselves committing the mayhem. Women are less attracted as a whole but are not immune.

When you see a computer, and watch it perform based on the programs installed, I'll bet you don't marvel at nature and how something so interesting and so seemingly alive just happened to occur in nature. I'll bet you are absolutely certain that the computer was created by an intelligent creator, a human creator.

Yet, you look at a human being and believe it could generate itself from the elements, just by the random actions of nature.

How much faith does it take to believe that when you don't even have enough faith to believe that a much less complicated computer could generate itself the same way.

To believe that living things came to life on their own by accident takes much more faith than it takes to believe in an intelligent creator, who purposely combined the right elements and brought them to life.

Violence in media, marketing, shows and games is just the human condition, nature itself is pinned in violence to survive, asking the world to be nonviolent is like asking conflict to be non-existent, it is the equivalent of friction, and could we do anything without conflicting powers fighting against each other? One devours the other, the one with the more violence wins. This is nature in its beauty and terror. Today we have crowded lives of other people, violence always waiting to emerge. We consider ourselves to be civilized, yet we cling to the most primitive ways of ensuring dominance, we are entertained by violence, it is in our nature, it is nature, we are created by nature, and thus we are beings of the primitive violence, it amuses us. Today we are not accustoming to first hand violence, so the brain compensates so we don’t go mad where madness is due. Violence sells, we know this, but not many know why, that is why, it is nature, we will always be a part of nature no matter how much we destroy it to make room for condominiums and “civilized” housing and office buildings. Violent video games and shows are just the release of the human brain of all violent ideas that are in us, an artificial alternative if you will.
what do you think?
Violence in media, marketing, shows and games is j... (show quote)

I think it is interesting that one of Michael Phelps former coaches now working with young swimmers, shoots video of other more accomplished swimmers, then has the young ones watch over and over again, saying nothing. He found that the youths just emulate what they see all by themselves.

I have heard it said and all seem to usually agree that we are all capable of violence, even k*****g another human being, under the right circumstances. Who tells us that? Those who see it in themselves. Which, I admit, is the vast majority but definitely not all of humanity. History has proved this usual assumption as to our nature is wrong, and I have seen it is wrong.

There any number of reasons that we accept this assessment and do not protest. A truly modest man would not be so presumptuous as to claim himself an exception to what is so widely thought of as basic to us and, never having been tested in that regard, will reasonably allow for the possibility...and bless himelf three times and put a necklace of garlic around his neck. Or maybe just say a prayer or two.

For thousands and thouands of years, world peace has been reaonably avoided by that calm and reasonable that cautions, "C'mon, now, let' be practical." Being pragmatic, not on its on but aided and abetted by certain desires, is the devil of our undoing.

No one works for evil; we all work for good. Even for those who commit suicide, it is seen by them as being in their own twsited best interest. Murderers, robbers, and all the rest in the vice squad only work for good. Their good. Good is always the only calling for every human on earth. And so it is that good is enemy of the best. The question for humanity is how to overcome good for what is best.

There are those who have accomplished this both naturally and through a discipline. They are very few in number because it appears to violate basic common sense and the instinct to survive. And it is so un-pragmatic.
