Did you know that if you can hear thunder, you're close enough to get hit by lightning? Lightning can strike up to 15 miles from the main storm. Who knew? So next time you hear it, you might want to find some cover. You're not safe in the open. You're also getting wet, so you probably deserve wh**ever happens.

We have a pool and the rule is any sound of thunder, no matter how far away it seems, and everyone out of the pool and inside.

Here's how I see it. Your chances of getting struck by lightning are pretty slim. If you take some sensible precautions, they're even slimmer. Why take chances? Then again, I'm a smoker, so I have no room to talk.

I cannot talk either. I have taken many crazy chances with lightning and God protected me. I will only say that in the future I will be more careful. Old age sucks except for the alternatives.

Lightening can also k**l you, even if you are standing several yards away from the impact. I believe it travels through the ground.

You are right. I have seen trenches where it hit the ground, traveled 30 feet and blew the telephone box off the side of a house. I was also shown where it traveled 10 feet along the ground and blew a front door off of a house.

What lightning does and then what it did not do amazes sometimes. I was standing on a narrow trench where it had traveled to the house and blew the telephone box off the house and I looked down and my legs were covered in yellow jackets. the lightning went right through their nest and did not even disturb them, but me standing on top of their nest did. Needless to say I set a personal speed record in fleeing the scene of the crime. I swept them off of my pants and was not stung even once. Thank God I was not in shorts.

Didn't you know? That was a new breed of Africanized wasps. They're immune to lightening, and just about everything else.

Could be. Ever since as a boy when I got stung on the nose for throwing rocks at their nest, I have a healthy respect for any wasps, but that ain't nothin compared to my fear of white faced hornets. Thems is nasty. I would love to throw a nest of them into a closed container with a hive of k**ler bees, and then sell bets on who lives. My money would be on the hornets.

What's really nasty about hornets, is that they can sting you over and over again. They don't lose their stingers, like Bees do. I remember mowing the grass one time. There was an underground nest of the little buggers. They didn't like all that noise, I guess. I got stung over three DOZEN times!
