I am sitting here blinking my eyes a lot to stay awake and hoping I never get where you people are in that I have no trouble going to sleep when the hands of old fashioned clocks both get to 12 and beyond. I just put on my CPAP paraphernalia, get under my covers, say a prayer, and start counting the hours of a clock and repeat it if I get clear to 12. Usually I never count past the number more than twice. I am hoping that God remains on my side at night.

I have on occasion neglected, forgotten, to take my night time meds and wondered why at 0530 I am still awake. Upon arising I find I couldn't nap during the day, but had no difficulty sleeping when I retired for the night.

Ain't it weird how we do or do not sleep? I sleep so much better the past 6 or so years since I was put on CPAP. Sleep so much deeper and dream all the time when I just didn't dream for years and I think it was because I wasn't really asleep from sleep apnea.

I rarely dream, or if I do I'm not aware of it. If I awaken anytime past 0230 I cannot return to sleep. After tossing and turning for an hour or so I just get up. When I do sleep one of my cats always awakens me wanting to go out. This usually occurs between 0530 and 0600. He is quite persistant so I arise open the door letting them both out, fix there breakfast and return to bed. Sometimes I am able to sleep for an additional 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Most of you seem to have trouble sleeping, I have trouble staying asleep. Two problems. 1, my wife wakes up every two hours and needs help getting to the bathroom. When she comes back, a half hour later it is my turn. Then another two hour sequence until daylight. 2. But, the dang cat, although she is very nice, sleeps with me most of the time, but she gets rousted out like I do every two hours. She finally come to me and jumps on me to wake up at 0630 just when I am starting to get settled down from the last fiasco. I feed her, even though she has dry food there, she hollers for wet food. Then I go back to bed, for another hour.

By this time, I am ready for a nap after breakfast. So the whole day is shot, same thing every day. I am not old enough for this routine, I am only 80, I didn't expect this until I was about 98 or so. Just goes to show you, we don't how to plan our lives very well. At least I don't.

Having two cats as bed mates isn't quite the same as cuddling with ones spouse. They are quite loving but it's somewhat different. They don't cuddle.

I am a side sleeper...when I sleep. My new baby has taken up laying on my upside with her head draped over my shoulder, under my chin.

No, it would not be the same. Our felines do not like being disturbed. A spouse is use to the turning, etc. and adjusts..even in sleep.

I am very blessed my spouse is a morning person and does breakfast for the "children".

He REALLY angers me at sleep time. He is one of those people who says, "ok, I'm going to sleep." Rolls his big lug self over and is asleep within five minutes and hears NOTHING till the AM. Grrrrrrrrrrr

What I'd like to know, is how these cats figure out the routine that makes us all obey them. The end up running the show most of the time. When they give you a little attention, you are so easily overcome with it that you bend over backwards to please them. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

Yes! :!: :-P The standard statement is to the effect that dogs have owners and cats have staff. We are the staff. Our cats are good about not nagging in the AM if there is a sleep-in; however, heaven help you in the evening. Nag...nag....nag.. Till dinner is served.

What is your answer when they nag you for food, and when you give it to them turn their nose up and walk away. It isn't that they haven't eaten it before, because they have. Slurped it up like it was cat candy. But, I guess they want something else. I don't comply I leave it, and sooner or later, they sneak back and eat it anyway.

Larry,I have the same problem with my cats. I have tried numerous different types of food , but they actually refuse to eat certain types. I suppose they, like us humans, tire of the same old stuff. Mine sniff and turn away from their food each morning however, sometime during the day they will return and nibble at it. They eat their dry food which they seem to never tire of. I have the same problem in the evenings. They turn up their nose and walk away from the canned food. Come morning though the dishes are licked clean. I do empathize with them for just not liking some foods. We all have our likes and dislikes in food.

I guess I have to learn to talk cat, I hear her voice, but it sounds the same to me each time. I will pay closer attention and try to see if she is saying something different. Man this is like talking to a redneck. We just don't exist on the same plane.

One could juxtapose the Redneck for a Yankee.

I too have difficulty in 'conversing' with my two felines. Their mood seems to change as often as a female, and they are both males.
