how about wounded warriors?

I did not put them on the list. The list is primarily about donation of goods from your home at the end of the year. If Wounded Wars takes clothing and such to assist with their work, they are certainly worthwhile.

That's really good info. I give to the disabled American vets, and I have been pondering giving to St. Jude's, and maybe the Fisher House after they stepped up to help the families of our fallen soldiers when the government wouldn't. Thanks AuntiE!

And do not donate to the "Human Society of the United States" (HSUS). This organization has absolutely nothing to do with your local humane society and they essentially stole the Humane Society name as a means to confuse those who do not understand the mission of this deceptive organization. Like PETA, HSUS's solicited donations support marketing efforts, overhead, salaries and other items not related to the welfare of animals. http://www.consumerfreedom.com/2012/01/9-things-you-didnt-know-about-hsus/

Is the "Human Society of the United States" different from the Humane Society? I ask because I had not heard of the first referenced group.

You just relieved my mind. I sometime participate in a survey group. The gratuity is $1 to a charity. I choose the Humane Society. It is not a great deal but my mind is relieved.

Suggestion: Donate to your local Humane Society or no-k**l shelter. I donate regularly to the local no-k**l shelter. It is mostly volunteer, and I know the director, her "salary" is laughable. Almost all of this organization's donations go for what they are supposed to; Food, shelter, and medical needs for the animals. By the way, adopt out of a no-k**l shelter if you can, rather than Humane Society. The no-k**ls have a higher overhead, since they do not euthanize except in rare circumstances. By adopting out of one of them, you increase their ability to find homes for other homeless animals, and leave them more overhead for neutering, better food, etc.
