When I saw the poster was Rumitoid, I had second thoughts about bothering to go to the link, but being the open-minded person I am, I read the post.
Ahem---It's really quite informative of the liberal mind.
The govt. should NOT be in the charity business, no matter how "Fair" it sounds. The govt has no business in the education business, either. The author, Ben Corey (I think) has been disillusioned by wh**ever church he was affiliated with, but that does not mean we should all drop our church membership. We are right to fight obamacare--it is socialistic, and will not help anyone but the bureaucrats who will make money off of it. We should go back to taking care of our own and disciplining our children and V****G SMART!!

Faith, did you really read Coreys' piece? He never suggested you give up your Church or Faith. He said you and the Churches should step up and fill in where the Government had been before the shutdown! In other words: "Walk the walk, don't just talk the talk". If the Church(s) are against government assistance, then fill in the blanks with your own contributions to the needy, and let the government pull out, altogether!

If you did read his column, you seem to be unable to comprehend what he was saying! I know better. I've seen
it in your posts!.

Reread it....

I will warn you. Prepare for RANT ON...NOW!!!!

You want the churches to step up to fill the need then tell the bloody ffycin government to get out of the way. Let me us a microcosm of what I mean.

Within five miles of my home are five churches of varying faiths. EVERY single one of these churches years ago served one meal per day, six days a week to people in need of food. They also collected from congregants clothing to provide to individuals coming for meals. The congregants volunteered to cook and bring various vegetables, desserts, etc. Others would provide bags, containers, utensils, etc. so the individuals served could take a small portion with them for an evening meal. Fresh and packaged fruit was brought to send with the people being served. The two meats were prepared in the church kitchens. Do you know why these five food programs no longer exist? The bloody flycin government is why!!!! In their infinite wisdom, they determined such activity could not continue because; 1. The church kitchen did not have county restaurant rated stoves and ovens, hence, could not be used. 2. The food brought from volunteers was not safe, though not one single illness had occurred in ten years, because it was not prepared in a county approved, licensed and inspected kitchen. 3. The county dietitian/nutritionist determined they could not find a way to rate nutritional value. 4. The packaging of food to be taken did not meet county requirements. 5. There were not sufficient bathrooms in the churches. They cared not a whit that approximately 700 individuals were being fed at NO expense to the government!!!! They only cared that their satuljice regulations were not met, were gaining no licensing fee dollars and making the county look bad. The county shut them down. The county the opened a facility which feed a total of three hundred three days a week. You do the bloody math on that. I do not feel like typing out the number of individuals who lost out on food.

Now, enter the government again. Let us take the three private church schools with a community service requirement of ten hours per week. One of the options for service was sandwich pr********n for homeless individuals. Again, parents would five days per week provide, meat, cheese, peanut butter, jelly and added fruit to the list. Students would gather in assembly lines with each having an assigned task in sandwich making, bagging, etc. The students were making approximately 50-75 sandwiches per day. It was the county's determination this was unacceptable. The reason, gosh the food components were not purchased through a certified, licensed food distributor. The county had no way of determining if the food had been stores to restaurant standards, etc. Again, you can do your own math as to how many people ceased having a sandwich and piece of fruit. My minimum would be five days per week times 50 equals...hmm....250.

And next, let us not forget the bloody flyciin county informing these groups they COULD NOT provide clothing or blankets (used) directly to the people they were feeding, as the county could not determine if it had been cleaned to county standards utilized in medical facilities.

Shall we next go to the Catholic High school whose students determined their service project would be establishing a shelter in the gym. Teachers and parents volunteered to chaperon the students work at night. You well may ask how the county shut this bit of charity down. There were six showers available. They were going to house approximately thirty people. Absolutely not, per the county. You have to have at least ten showers. You have to have towels from a county licensed linen provider. No towels from home.

DO NOT tell me the churches should step in. Long before this time they have tried to "walk the talk" and it IS NOT allowed.

Rant over....maybe.

Aunti E is so right the reason local church and benevolent societies are not helping is that the local and federal governments won't allow it. It cuts into their ability to skim 25% off the top. Graft and corruption are the order of the day and the liberals can't garner bribes from the church's.

I am waiting for DoD to tell the Marines they can no longer do Toys for Tots as it may be perceived as a Christian activity.

I am beyond exhausted listening to sanctimonious posterior openings to the alimentary canal telling us everything Christians do wrong and then howling at the top of their voices for the same people they denigrate to do something. Exactly what have these howling kreteni done lately except run their flapping jaws.

Obviously, this topic has made my normal civility vanish.

I LOVE your answer! I did read one of the articles, and what I got from it was that the churches don't do enough. I know for a fact my church does plenty! The hot meals were shut down, but we have a food pantry and give out food to the needy. Also help with utility bills. Also baby supplies for single Moms. there are other things, but I know these off the top of my head.

AuntiE, I will not repeat your post....we both know what you had to say, and justifiably so! Even though I was speaking in my earlier post to the "bigger" picture of overall Church-based assistance, nationwide, your illustrations of frustration would draw the ire of anyone.

It is reprehensible that someone, somewhere, in any form of government could not coordinate such assistance by and for any charitable group. I have to assume that such assistance did not seek approval or specifications needed to provide such massive assistance. If so, why not? Could it have been arranged in a reasonable, compromising way?

If not, then I even more understand your ire. That is something that local governmental officials should be able to coordinate, with possible help from state or federal agencies. Where there is a will, there should be a way!

In your cases presented, you had every right to rant...and rave on, and on , and on....... :hunf:

Socialists don't want competition from 'free-enterprise'; they can steal the $$$ from the same to then get credit for 're-distribution' as THEY see fit to then get credit for being magnanimous to the "needy" THEY created, while getting their v**es as well as from all the bureaucrats THEY now employ to run all the programs THEY'VE instituted to control the helpless[stupid] population by fiat.
WAAYYYY to big govmint with little KGB wanna-bees micromanaging as many aspects of YOUR life as possible. WE pay them huge money w/FULL bennies +early huge retirement to harrass, plague, insult, fine and ORDER us what, where + when to do it.

I did not even provide the example from a church whose congregants "adopted" three single mothers living in a complex close to their church. They gathered used toys (in good condition), used clothing, etc., etc. They also helped paint each apartment, redo the floors, some plumbing work and so forth. Apparently a few jealous neighbors complained. You need not guess what happened. Another act of kindness to benefit these three women and their children, and they were warned they must meet county criteria for safety of the toys, painting, etc. They could only utilize county licensed individuals.

Basically what the sugadores de sang bureaucrats want is the churches to hand them the money to distribute as opposed to church's making the decision as to where THEIR money goes.
