"After open enrollment ends on March 31, 2014, they won't be able to get health coverage through the Marketplace until the next annual enrollment period, unless they have a qualifying life event." - From healthcare.gov

Qualifying life event would be "A change in your life that can make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period to enroll in health coverage. Examples of qualifying life events are moving to a new state, certain changes in your income, and changes in your family size (for example, if you marry, divorce, or have a baby)."

So no, you won't. It doesn't work that way for a reason.

I said: Post-ACA, they don't need insurance and pay the much smaller penalty. Then she gets pregnant. Then they get insurance.

You said: You won't be allowed to just sign up whenever you want. There will be an enrollment period and if you don't sign up then it will require you losing your job to opt in.

Then you said: Qualifying life event would be "A change in your life that can make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period to enroll in health coverage. Millions of people do live in small towns. You are not prepared, you think your prepared. 9/11 NY thought they were prepared, they weren't!

I live within 10 miles of 11 hospitals, smallest is 400 rooms.

Many many places do not have the doctors or equipment to handle heart patients let alone something that difficult. CT scan pretty simple right except it's 120 miles to the nearest machine. MRI same thing and both of those machines are how much?

Head to a town in the US that's close to Canada, check and see the number of patients from Canada or check the number of nurses from Canada. My old home town has 20% of nurses from Canada, not even enough of those. US cities are well off but will they be? DC is crying for doctors, nurses, lab techs, etc.

Yep we'll add another 300,000 and won't feel a thing and them we'll add 7 million i******s onto that.

Can't blame Obama for that but this will compound the problem and I can sure as hell blame for that.

I don't live in a small town. I work at a hospital that just added a 9 floor building and has around a thousand rooms. We are prepared. We have doctors... and we have been adding them in large numbers to prepare. So your reality isn't my reality. We have plenty of docs in my town and if not there then its a short 25 minute drive to Columbus where there are plenty. If you didn't have doctors before.. then maybe you need to find a way to draw them to your area. Leaders in your area need to be focusing on how to do that and how to make sure the people that live there are able to get health care. You can't blame Obama because you were already short on doctors. Instead of taking 40 v**es maybe your representative should be focused on how to fix that major problem in your area... if indeed you live in a red area. Which ironically most of the areas who lack health care fall in to.

What does post-ACA mean exactly?

And for the record... you have to be pregnant before you actually have a baby. It takes about 9 months start to finish. Prenatal Care is expensive. It's a lot of risk for someone else to take... for you to tell someone they should take. There are disasters that can happen.

Its amazing that the one spouting off about how great this health care law is doesn't even know what ACA stood for. I will look forward to more knowledgeable advice from her not.

Have heard democrats refer to it both way, maybe to confuse the issue?

I think she was obtuse as to the meaning of what the 'post' bit stood for.

Old Gringo is right on the money (I wanted to say it because I don't think I will be saying it often)

I know what ACA means.. I usually refer to OC as that actually. It was the post... I am guessing you mean after it starts. I was confused.. it passed.

For someone who claims to have read the bill and be somewhat of an expert the words Affordable Care Act are written all over it. So I guess its selective reading.

I have literally referred to it as the ACA numerous times. I know the bill. I wasn't sure what you meant by post... Like after its gone or after it starts. I figured out you meant after it starts.
