I thought I'd open a dialogue on study Bibles. Get some feedback from you on what you prefer. I have two such Bibles: A KJV Life Application study Bible and the 1599 Geneva Bible. I love both, but I wanted to see what else is out there. I downloaded a study Bible buyer's guide and read it in detail. There were a couple that piqued my interest, but I couldn't decide. So I continued looking. I found an Apologetics Study Bible and was pretty sure this would be the one.

However, purely by chance, I came across the YRM Restoration Study Bible. It is based on the KJV, but it goes much deeper into the original Bible languages--includes both a Greek and Hebrew dictionary. I was sold on this one and ordered it today. Beautiful thing really. Two tone brown leather cover with the Hebrew name for God (Yahweh) embossed on the cover. It also includes some archaeological info and charts of the Harmony of the OT and NT and the harmony of the Gospels. (I'm thinking of getting another to give to my sis for Christmas, but I want to experience it first, share it with her and see how she likes it.)

I'll post something more when I get it. In the meantime, I'd like to hear what Bibles other Christians here particularly like. And why.

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."

(Lord Jesus, Matthew 5: 17)

The YRM Restoration Study Bible sounds good. Personally I like the Companion Bible because of its many appendixes. It's also based on the KJV. It's sold by Shepherd's Chapel.

Yes sir, the Companion Bible is the most informative, it has 198 appendixes that gives insight on passages in scripture. The Green's Interlinear Bible that comes coded with the concordance Numbers. The KJV key Bible is the other one that is helpful to get into those hard to understand passages. The Strongs Exhaustive Concordance with the Hebrew and Greek Dictionary is essential to learn what the message really means.
But studying with a True Christian Church Pastor to help study "line for line , precept by precept" is the clencher to advance your study.

Here are some of the features of the YRM Restoration Study Bible.

This attractive resource offers insight and clarity found nowhere else. It is the result of 150 years of in-depth study spanning three generations. The Restoration Study Bible examines the source languages behind the English text to reveal original meanings. In addition to restoring the sacred Names Yahweh and Yahshua, this unique Bible has in-depth book introductions, thousands of eye-opening study notes, cross-references, instructional charts, a topical reference, Strong’s numbering and the Strong’s Hebrew and Greek dictionaries. It answers such questions as:

What is the Name of our Father in heaven and why is it important to New Testament faith?
Did Paul really teach that obedience was no longer necessary?
What was the meaning of Peter’s vision in Acts 10?
What is the meaning and impact of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse?

With all that it offers, we pray that the Restoration Study Bible will be your Bible of choice for research and learning. You no longer need to rely only on what “scholars” say — now there is a Bible that clearly proves the answers to these and hundreds of other perplexing issues that have troubled Bible students for centuries. It is a library in one volume. The Designer cover is a dark brownish-red, leatherette material, with the Tetragrammaton (the four Hebrew letters of the Creators' name, Yahweh) burnished vertically on the front cover with perimeter stitching. The spine with approximately one-third of the front and back cover is burnished in reverse.

The Bible can be found here, if you care to check it out.

   Thanks for opening this thread Blade. I too have a number of Bibles. I have been reading and studying the NIV study Bible for a few years now and enjoy it. I do not always agree with Ryrie's opinions in the footnotes however. But I find it helps when ministering to others because it is easy to read and understand. I am wanting an ESV study Bible. Would like to hear if anyone has experience with it? Thanks.

The Bible is not the Final Authority. Jesus admonished the Scribes for such idolatry. "You study the scriptures diligently..." Spirit teaches and moves and directs: not the Bible!

I had a feeling when I posted this that eventually the graceless fool would likely come on here loaded with self-righteous indignation and blatant heresy. Your arrogant comment is uncalled for. This subject isn't about you and your twisted beliefs.

Jesus said: "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." (Luke 24:44)

Yes, throughout His ministry, Jesus often quoted from the OT. Deuteronomy and Isaiah seem to have been His favorites.

Luke wrote:

And he (Yeshua) came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias (Isaiah). And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Quote:
"And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?" (John 7:15)

In the midst of the annual feast of tabernacles, "Jesus went up into the temple, and taught" (John 7:14), and the unique caliber of His teaching caused the Jewish scholars there to "marvel."

Their question on this occasion was how an uneducated man, who had never been taught by the scribes and rabbis, could have acquired such a remarkable understanding of the Holy Scriptures. He had never had formal training in the Word; yet, when He taught, "He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes" (Matthew 7:29).

His answer to their question was amazing: "My doctrine |or 'teaching'| is not mine, but his that sent me" (John 7:16).

There are two factors at work here. First of all, His working knowledge of the Old Testament Scriptures was encyclopedic, acquired in the same way any other student of the Word can acquire it--by diligent and prayerful personal study thereof. He had done this all His life from the time He was a small boy. Remember how He had "asked questions" of the astonished doctors in the temple, and then how He was "subject unto" His parents, and how He "increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man" (Luke 2:46, 51-52). In all of this, He is a perfect human example to us, as we also seek to learn the Scriptures and to grow in wisdom and in favor with God.

But beyond His human understanding of the Word, of course, was His own innate divine wisdom and authority. He was eternal God, as well as perfect man. Thus He not only has authenticated the former Scriptures and given us an example in their study and use, but has also conveyed perfectly to us, through His holy apostles and prophets, the Scriptures of the New Covenant as well.

2 Timothy 3:14-17
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Joshua 1:8
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Psalm 119:11
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

John 1:1-51
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

God tells us all scripture is God breathed. You are a phony and double minded. I truly want you to know Him personally as your best friend. So many on here want that for you. Please stop fighting and surrender and see all the good God has for you flatlux. Yes, I get pissed of at you, but I so much want you to be saved and know Him personally. I truly do. I admit I am human and even redneck and will most likely say wrong things to you. But please know my heart for you. At one time all of us were God's enemies, yet He loved us anyway. He is awesome flatlux. he will change your life dramatically if you will let Him. Amen.

Looks like I have my work cut out for me. Bible study just moved to a new level for me.

The Restoration Bible came today. I opened the package at my sister's and after we thumbed through it and read of the features, instructions and some of the passages, she was absolutely astounded. The one feature that really impressed her is the use of the original Hebrew names for the Father and Son--Elohim, Yahweh and Yahshua.

Along with the study notes, the Bible includes Strong's numbering system to reference words in either the Hebrew or Greek dictionaries which are provided in the back of the book.

Also included are many, charts, maps and diagrams, biographies of principle people and authors of the books, and archaeological data. Plus there is a lot of information on the history of the original texts.

The primary theme of this Bible is its focus on the original languages--Ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

Going to be busy with this one.

That's what wrong with you, DB. "you suspect" but never shut up to learn from what other people are replying. Learning God's Word is worthwhile because of the layers of wisdom. But you wouldn't study, because you talk down the Bible, you're happy where you are, and you don't make an effort to change. Same ol' DB, with many like you. If God Wills it, may He Bless you.
