Independently Disappointed

Our political system is broken in this country. And the same people who broke it are the only ones who can fix it.

If ALL American v**ers demanded three things, we could get back on the right track. Those three are:

1. Term Limits for all Congressional servants. I think 8 years is long enough to bilk the country out of enough money for their retirement. Congress SHOULD NOT BE A CAREER!

2. Campaign Finance Reform. Take the big money out of campainging, and suddenly you have a fair playing field without having to do favors for those who bought your way into office.

3. Abolish Lobbying. Remember when it was called BRIBERY? And it was punishable with prison time? We need to get the crooks out of office.

I think that eight years is to long of time to allow them to be in congress as there is to great of chance for them to form a good old boys club.

I think maybe four years may be closer to the max that they could be trusted.

Also they must be subject to all laws and bills that they pass and they cannot exempt themselves from them.

They will also not be able to give themselves raises as all raises will have t o be approved by the people. All perks will be canceled. If you want to serve the people then serve, this is not a get rich quick program.

You will be subject to the same insurance as the general populace and you will not have special insurance.

After they leave office they loose the secret service and begin life as a citizen not as an executive.

All salaries cease after they leave office and that includes the president.

I also believe that the SCOTUS should be limited to term limits so that the damage inflicted on the American people cannot continue for to long a period of time. There should be mandatory restrictions on the Supreme Court and the should make their decision based on the constitution and not on how they feel.

It's sad that .07% of Americans are millionaires, but 50% of our members of Congress are millionaires. Hmmm, wonder how THAT happened?

It's sickening the way our political system has been perverted into what it is now. So corrupt, and making v**ers feel powerless. It has to stop soon.

Good points. Campaign finance reform won't work unless the loop holes to get around the law are closed. McCain-Feingold law failed to do this and things actually got worse.
Also there's a fourth thing that needs to be done.
KEEP THE MEDIA OUT OF THE CAMPAIGN! The incumbent always gets free air time thanks to CBS, ABC, CNN, NBC, and even FOX.

Either equal free air time for both candidates or none to both. Keep the contributions to a modest level and put some kind of watch dog in place to keep big corporations from buying a candidate and that would also limit special interest groups that have large quantities of cash. Let the money come from the regular people and let the politician listen to his/her constituents or get v**ed out. Most people feel that there representatives don't even listen to them. More town hall meetings with real debate. Any new bill should be brought up and after it is written let the representatives read it and bring it back to their constituents in town hall meetings and then go back to Washington and v**e based on their constituents feed back.

Good post. Earmarks for individual congressmen should be outlawed, Supreme court recalls should be exercised and absolute congressional vetting for all appointed positions eliminating cronyism like we're seeing now.

Yes, I am against a press that give free air time to the incumbent while the challenger has to pay for his air time. All the incumbent does is go on the Sunday morning shows pretending it's a news conference while it's really a political rally. If you call favoring one candidate and screwing the other candidate, that's the press I'm against. The un-American press is more like TASS. That's got to stop.

Sa I remember, when FOX tried to give equal time you libs said that FOX wasn't fair and they were biased. Everyone knows how CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNN are. FOX has since moved into the same direction as the rest, but not so extreme. You libs get mad because Rush and other talk show host are biased. At least they admit it and their philosophy is that if you don't like it, don't listen. MSNBC is extremely lib biased, which is fine for them, but they won't admit it. Either give equal free time to both candidates or give no free time. This whole discussion is about fixing our screwed up e******n system and trying to save our rights before we lose them entirely.

Watch out, the first sign of a liberal. progressive, Marxist, c*******t is that they attack the messenger and not the message. We want the media to be free and equal, and if not tell us so. Like this is CNN your totally left wing off the wall wacko station and we are endorsing the furthest left candidate that we can find, and his name is Barack H. Obama.
