If you remember, Illinois recently enacted a concealed carry law, albeit a very restrictive one. The Chicago Police Superintendent isn’t too happy with it. He thinks that more guns equals more crime. He also warned that the new law will create more incidents of cop-on-civilian shootings. He made his warning known in a radio interview: “You put more guns on the street expect more shootings. I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.” He acknowledged that unfortunately there are many cases of police shooting innocent and unarmed citizens, but having concealed carriers around will only make that problem worse. “You say concealed carry, I say Trayvon Martin. Police officers make mistakes all the time. We spend six months in the police academy, six months of field training and ongoing training on a regular basis and the fact is once in a while we’re going to shoot someone with a cellphone; we’re going to shoot somebody with a flashlight and none of that is okay. But now you take John Q. Civilian, you give them six weeks or 10 weeks of training and you say ‘have at it?’ The fact is more guns are not the solution to the firearm gun violence problem in this country. Less guns and reasonable gun laws are. And just because it’s 49 states to one doesn’t mean the state of Illinois is wrong on that one.” GunsNFreedom.com pointed out the not-so-subtle irony in the police chief’s warnings and criticisms. On one hand, he doesn’t want civilians carrying guns, because they’re not trained like police officers are, yet he acknowledges that highly trained police officers will shoot an innocent person with a cellphone or flashlight. And now his highly trained officers will shoot at someone carrying a gun, regardless of whether or not that person has done anything wrong. Police are trained to shoot to k**l when they feel their lives are being threatened. So now, all a police officer in Illinois needs in order to feel like his life is being threatened is witness a law-abiding citizen carrying a gun. He’s sending a message to gun-owners in Illinois: If you have the audacity to exercise your 2nd Amendment rights, don’t be surprised if you end up dead as a result.

Apparently, the average citizen with a CC permit is smarter than the average Chicago policeman, or the chief, for that matter. Talk about liberal-speak! All the statistics in the world, proving "More guns--Less crime" don't faze those libs. Chicago is a place to stay away from! How many murders do they have so far this year?? I'll take my chances in Detroit.

Yes I saw this and I live regretfully so in Illinois. It is ass holes like this that cause more gun violence and he should be removed from office and any city that had an ounce of brains would do so. But if you are democrat controlled, mob run city, like Chicago and you get paid a lot of money under the table, you do as you are told. The county police in Illinois for the most part are all in favor of conceal carry as they know it will reduce crime and help them do their job more efficiently. It is and will be the city police who will continue to be the problems, and Chicago has again shown its disdain for the second amendment. That being said there will still be those who will carry in Chicago and if any are fired upon like this crazy says I only hope is that the courts would fine the city so much that it would take years for them to pay it all and that they would be forced to fire this stupid SOB.

If you live in or around Chicago there is a message here and it is somewhat hidden. Chicago has always bee associated with the Mob and the Mafia right. OK if law abiding citizens start concealed and carry then when the mob or mafia goes to shake down their list of whom they protect that could put them in danger. If this puts to many if them in danger then that is going to have an adverse affect on the moneys coming in to the mafia. If money gets to short that in turn could affect how much the politicians get for kick backs etc. If it were to continue to far Chicago may actually reverse direction and become a city that would be nice to visit and where the businesses could do their jobs with out being shaken down, this will mean lower prices. The trickle down affect could also adversely affect unions over the long haul as well. All of this could really destroy Chicago's reputation and we wouldn't want that would we.

Too much credit. The average turnip is smarter than the average Chicago cop. Or Chief.

Really the superintendent of the most dangerous shooting gallery in the world, surpassing Afghanistan is going to lecture folks on gun control/gun safety? Who is this douche bag and why haven't residents had him removed? Citizens are going to CCW because your force is ineffective. I hope he and his family become victims of the criminals they are trying to protect. Maybe then he will get the picture.

Chicago is doing and end run in effect. It is prohibiting CCW in any establishment that serves alcohol of any kind whether they serve food is irrelevant. All churches and Mosques etc are off limits, all school zones where children may walk is off limits, School buildings no CCW, buses no CCW political buildings no CCW public buildings like Museums and similar no CCW. What they are trying to do is make it so difficult to conceal carry in Chicago that people will not carry thus negating the law by restriction. About the only place you can legally carry in Chicago is your car and there are restrictions on that also. So we are back to the beginning and that is the only people that will be carrying a gun will be the criminal and the cops and the cops will refuse to go into the high crime areas.

It would be most interesting to understand how this ...believe it or not words fail, can institute any rules relating to weapons in a church. To my knowledge, a church is private property. It is owned, financed and managed by it's congregants.

I know I also thought the same but I kind of remember something of this nature being discussed and I believe that it had the support of a number of pastors in the Chicago area.

Basically the political machine is having a hissyfit in Chicago because the concealed carry bill passed and even as restrictive as it is they want it more so and are doing everything in their power no negate said bill.

Basically they want to restrict the places to where you can actually carry a gun legally to so few that it becomes ridiculous and therefore the people won't want to carry. Add to that the police chief and his fire on sight decree it makes carrying a firearm and by the way the police chief stated even a cell phone dangerous to the person carrying.

Did the people of Chicago actually v**e these nitwits into office? It's like California--nobody likes what's happening, but they keep v****g the same liberals in, getting the same results. What are you thinking, people? Isn't freedom worth anything any more?

It's the classic definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.
