Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., will try to prevent the Senate from v****g on President Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Reid said that Democrats would attempt to use the filibuster to prevent the Senate from holding even a symbolic v**e on the issue, which would likely result in an embarrassing outcome for Democrats. "I recently informed Senator McConnell that after a period of robust debate, Democrats would be happy to proceed straight to a final passage v**e," Reid said in the statement, suggesting "robust debate" was a coy way of saying that the debate will not end unless Republicans can muster 60 v**es to do so.

Under the terms of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act passed earlier this year, the Senate has the option of v****g in favor of the deal, v****g against it or taking no action at all. If the Senate were to v**e against the deal, President Obama would still be able to veto the action. At least 67 v**es would be required to override such a veto.

Presently, Democrats have at least 38 v**es in favor of the deal. Just three — Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Robert Menendez, D-N.J., and Ben Cardin, D-Md., have said they would join Republicans in v****g against it. If Republicans v**e in unison, that means at least 57 senators would v**e against the deal. While that would be short of the 67 required to override a veto, it would be enough to humiliate the administration.

I thought that Republicans were in the majority. How does the head of the minority party prevent a v**e?

The President has vowed to veto any legislation rejecting the 5 plus 1 Agreement. In order to override the veto it takes 2/3 majority of both bodies of congress v****g to override. In the senate that number is 67 out of 100, and in the House of Representatives the number is 290 out of 435. With 34 Senators deciding to v**e in favor of the agreement, the expected veto cannot be overridden no matter how the HOR v**es.

It takes 60 senate v**es to bring the legislation to the floor to be discussed. If Reid can convince 7 more Senators to support the agreement, he will have successfully blocked the bill from going to the floor for debate and discussion, and the agreement will be considered passed.

Although the Republicans control both houses of congress, they have to have bi-partisan support in order to get anything done. Since they failed to give support when the Democrats controlled both houses, it's unlikely they will garner Democrat support with their efforts. The old saying "wh**ever goes around, comes around" rings true in our congress.

What Congress does will change nothing.
China, France,Germany,Britain and Russia have already given the deal a pass.
We have no control over Iran's already released assets.

You know it brother, the republicans at the bequest of the tea baggers have become the do-nothing party of the big empty hissyfit.

It doesn't matter if McConnel forces a v**e, the out come will be the same. They v**e against the bill, Obama vetos their decision, they don't have the number of v**es to override the veto.......the bill fails. Additionally, McConnel doesn't want to go with the "nuclear option" of requiring only 51 v**es to pass or introduce legislation.....again. wh**ever goes around, comes around and he know the Republicans won't be in the majority indefinitely.

I can bet all you democrats will be in pig s**t heaven as soon as Iran finished making Nukes to bomb Israel and then the USA.

And there is little doubt that under the table, Obama will have been the one to sell Iran what they would need to complete making them.

Obama is giving the ultimate ISIS weapon ever...the Nuke Bomb, to Iran. Get your party on now about this...as when they finish making what BOMBS that they already VOW to make, the party will be over.

What happened the last e******n? Nothing.....you have the majority but you still have no power. Until the Republicans change the way they operate (nothing positive about what they can or will do, but lots of negatives about what someone else is doing), they will never regain the most important seat in our government.....the presidency.
