In one of the darkest omens for the future of this country, a new survey shows that 19 percent of Americans believe that religious institutions and clergymen should be forced to perform gay marriage ceremonies. You dont have to have a degree in statistics to see that this is a minority of the population, but keep one thing in mind: gay marriage has only been officially legalized for a week. In time, these numbers will undoubtedly grow.

In fact, the survey conducted by the Barna Group polling firm also shows that support for this kind of f*****t requirement is much larger among younger Americans. 26 percent of respondents under the age of 40 say that churches and preachers should be required to preside over same-sex ceremonies if asked to do so.

Age, obviously, isnt the only divide. According to the poll, 94 percent of evangelical Christians believe that the Supreme Court got it wrong last Friday. 86 percent of practicing Christians believe that the decision will have a negative effect on the country.

But to keep the focus on the courts decision is a mistake. Whats done is done, and its tough to imagine any scenario where that particular genie is going back in the bottle. Religious conservatives have no choice but to oppose the decision, but one has to recognize when a battle is lost. If conservatives spend all of their energy griping about the decision, they will have none left for the next battlefront. And if the left remains true to their playbook, the next battle will be on the national stage before you know it.

If you think back to last week, you may have noticed something. Liberal pundits, though obviously basking in the glow of their victory, were already outraged. Why? Because of what the dissenting judges had written. The L**T leaders were pleased with the ruling, but they werent satisfied. To them, its not enough just to win. They want to make it so that it is unacceptable to express anything but gleeful support for gay marriage.

Religious freedom is one of the oldest ideals upon which this country was founded. Between it and the freedom of expression both of which are encapsulated in the First Amendment conservatives should not have the slightest concern that their views will be punished or censored. But as weve seen, the Constitution is only as strong as the judges charged with interpreting it. When you can stretch the 14th amendment in such a way that it legalizes gay marriage, you can do just about anything.

This is no longer strictly a cultural war. This has now become about the Constitution itself. Are we going to carry that document with us into the next chapter of American history, or are we going to throw it aside for the newest liberal philosophies? That choice, more than any other, may define the future.

They or no one can force anyone to do something that they feel is not right. You just have to stand up and say so, and be willing to accept wh**ever comes your way. Majority rules and 20% is not a Majority by far.

If a business owner, butcher,a baker,a candlestick maker,preacher/minister/Rabbi etc. does NOT WISH TO 'CONTRACT' eg their goods or services, via goods or services, in an endeavor which they feel is an "A*********N" and opposed to their personal'beliefs', in a 'FREE SOCIETY' this should be their prerogative. IMHO.

I don't consider that 20% to be Americans. They probably THINK they are Americans, but the denial of free speech and freedom of non violent religions tells the tale.......they are statists, not real Americans. Hopefully they will move somewhere outside the US. I will never see them as American.......as I see no l*****t as an American to day. NO AMERICAN willfully gives away his freedoms.

The SC Justices that v**ed for this usurpation of the 1st Amendment should be impeached.
They took an ' Oath of Office' to UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION, so are in violation of their oaths and must be IMPEACHED...

It has always been my understanding that the Supreme Court was in place to insure that the Constitution and Amendments were not violated.

Your belief stemmed from American history and what the rules are. You have not yet adopted the statists' beliefs that the US Constitution can be "interpreted" to mean anything the agenda requires, and now that the psycho statists are out in huge numbers, thanks to this Administration and the latest SCOTUS decisions, ANYTHING GOES IF THEY CAN FORCE IT DOWN OUR THROATS. The fact they "found" things in the Constitution" by closing their eyes to facts, they THINK it can be forced down our throats. The chances of that being a fact remain in limbo. They may FORCE it, or they may not be ABLE to FORCE it. They only truly know the dummies in this country.

Unfortunately the concept of the Constitution being open to interpretation as a living document, which has gained popularity ever since the number of Soviet plants infiltrated FDR administration and have over run the educational system is now the unofficial "law of the land" as the statists get more power by the minute.
