While both the north and south participated in denigrating b****s it was southern conservatives who clung to s***ery as an institution to the point you were willing to go to war to maintain it. Jim Crow was purely a product of southern conservative h**e and intended purely to demean and destroy any advancement made by b****s after the civil war.

Remember--we Yankee Liberals only went into the south to kick southern conservative butts..and we did. You also need to understand that the democratic party during the 1800's was largely made up of conservatives and the republican party made up of liberals. Over time the two parties flipped ideologies and now democrat's are liberal and republican's conservative.

Uh huh, and a United States President Lyndon B. Johnson caused the US Congress to pass equal rights bills in the mid 1960s which created a sea change, right?
Those old southern Democrats who were really conservatives went right to v**e their backward interests and the smart people who looked to the future became more progressive.
