I do hope you are on the mend.

Now for your comment. It seems that when the van arrived at the police station, Mr Gray was unresponsive. They called the EMTs and he was fitted with an Direct Laryngoscopy so he could breath. He was t***sported to the hospital, assessed and had immediate surgery.

Watch the video, link is at the bottom of my comments. If he had a fracture of the neck, then the insertion would have caused more damage.

Emergency vehicles are not equipped to perform a diagnosis of such injuries. If there was no reason to believe he has injured his neck (either by the police or himself) they would not know unless there was significant bruising. Thing is, his autopsy said plainly that he did not have any bruising outside of a bruise on his head that matched a bolt in the roof of the t***sport vehicle. So they would administer life saving efforts, and insertion of the Direct Laryngoscopy so he could breath and they would have performed chest compression or defibulate if his heart was not beating.

To diagnose a spine injury: Plain x-rays of the cervical spine are essential to adequately evaluate a cervical fracture and dislocation. It is sometimes difficult to see a non-displaced or minimally displaced fracture or instability, therefore a Computed Tomography (CT) scan is usually ordered. A CT scan is the best test to verify that a fracture is or is not present. If no fracture is identified, but a patient has neck pain and was involved in large trauma or accident, flexion/extension x-rays are often obtained to verify that there if no evidence of ligamentous instability. A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test is useful to evaluate the severity of nerve compression or spinal cord injury, but is less accurate at detecting a fracture than a CT scan. A MRI test should generally always be obtained before performing a reduction procedure (closed or operative) in neurologically intact patients with a cervical fracture/dislocation.

And upon admittance to surgery the staff would have done a toxicology to make sure the drugs administered during his operation would not interact. At the same time they would do a CBC (complete blood count) to insure he was not anemic, which would cause excessive bleeding. And they would also check for cycle cell anemia, simply because he is black and that too would interfere with recovery. The pix below is NOT Gray's but you can see, spotting a fracture of the neck is not that easy to spot.

Reports say that he tolerated the surgery but went into a coma. Seven days later, he passed away in the hospital.

Now you are up to date.

Not sure of all the details, been sick and did not follow all the pieces...but a man does not end up with a busted spin on the floor of a cell ... he ends up in a hospital if unresponsive for a few hours, not day/s. I am sure the cops here look guilty as sin. And why is President Obama only coming out when a black kid gets hurt???? Wish a nice citezen would have video snaped this one too.

I get frustrated sometimes as when I moved I plopped down into the most conservative area I have ever lived in.
And yet here, if someone ODs they are treated as a person with a disease and I am not sure they even bring charges against them.
Then I read posts on sites like this and people seem to want to blame the victim of homicides for being k**led.
They surely don't seem to understand the criminal justice system where cops catch 'em, courts try 'em, and jails keep 'em.

YOU have a VERY VALID POINT!! I do hope they consider these facts...

I was just watching the news. How interesting, an officer who was privy to the Freddie Gray case stated that Freddie Gray tested positive for HEROIN and POT, cops saw him DEALING DRUGS! This has not been made public by the mayor or those investigating the officers. I just did a search, and only Fox News came up and I doubt that any Liberal on OPP will accept them as valid information. However, it does raise the question. Was he dealing and if the officers saw him, as this officer indicated, did he swallow the drugs to avoid another arrest narcotic arrest? And if he did indeed swallow the drugs, could that be another reason he was unresponsive upon arrival at the station? Why has his autopsy report not been released to the public? All other reports of the past 6 shooting were released almost immediately.

Excellent explanation! Now, anyone that has any intelligence at all...{forget the political affiliation, or sympathy for the "perp"}

Anyone.......Can easily see that "many" things can go wrong....specially....in the medical situation for the injured person!

Too many "under-intelligent".......people.....regardless of their political affiliation........."RUSH TO JUDGMENT", & "emotionally" deal with this type of situation!

A rough ride has always been an ever present danger when cross ways with the law. R*******n against the laws of the land put you perpendicular to it. In Florida, they solved the problem of fleeing felons. If you run, the police are judge, jury and executioner.

Um, thank you for demonstrating how little you know.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/overdose

People who overdose do not die when treated, usually.
It is interesting to hear about your society. Society in general recognizes addiction as a disease.
Mr. Grey was a victim of lead poisoning.
Do you know what his IQ was? What the effects were of his situation?
Here is some indication of what his life may have been like.
http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/csem/csem.asp?csem=7&po=10
You really don't have any clue, do you, about how often people with no money are railroaded into making a deal for a sure short sentence rather than going to trial?

As I said in my post, this is only found on Fox. No one else is running the news. But, when he had his operation they would have run a tox screen, so why have they made available. The tox screen from all the others was made public, why not this time? If he had taken, swallowed the drugs rather than be arrested, would cause problems and being unresponsive is a symptom. There has to be a special investigar appointed, too much biasedness in those who have investigated so far.

Thank you for your remarks.

As a cub reporter, I covered my first corrupt cop story in the early 80's. Little different, he was a street dealer and such but dealt for corrupt cops in the city according to friends. The cops angered him and he left the PD threatening to expose them and went home and told his momma. Shortly he was arrested for allegedly having stolen a ball point pen at the PD. The next morning, he woke up dead in his cell with a wad of undigested cocaine in his gut and a handprint bruise on his throat. Cleveland Texas, Kenneth Simpson was his name. No punishment. The police chief who wasn't even there was made the scapegoat and fired and it was swept under the rug. The person many suspect as the one that choked him down is still with the department. When Jew Don Boney pulled in trying to make a racial issue of it back then, I told him, "It was a black man that choked him down. How is that r****t?" He left, the new white chief of police was fired and life moved on. Point of the story, it isn't about race. It is about the corruption of unbridled power.

Well, just like the Trayvon Martin, Duke La Crosse, and Ferguson incidents, the libtards here on OPP, who only rely on the liberal media for their biased news, will try and convict these officers, regardless of any actual evidence presented (or totally made up or distorted by the liberal media). They were TOTALLY wrong in these other three incidents, and I bet they're wrong on this one too. In the meantime, I will sit back and observe and watch how you libtards distort the hell out of the evidence, and see what evidence you make up. It was quite a spectacle reading the libtards comments in these past three incidents, which were mostly, if not all wrong. You libtards are so predictable.
