Lol, yes, it keeps us from something but not farting in bed or peeing in the shower, both in the natural or maybe higher order of being. It keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously and others too lightly. We are in this together and that levels the playing field to fun and togetherness.

Good points. If I can laugh at another without me being the prototype or clone for the same amusement, or at least a near facsimile, I am just being cruel. For humor to work, my limited nature must always be included. The joke is always on me...or it's not funny.

The way I see it: If you can't look at yourself, and laugh; then you don't have the right to laugh at anyone else! We live in a tough, and serious time, no doubt! Let's enjoy it as much as we can!
