Why doesn't California do desalination?

California is the looney toon state. It is hard to think of any other state that is run by such left wing clowns. California is also a very rich state. If the people would stop electing morons life could be good.

Right now California is suffering from a severe drought. Now this state continues to waste billions on a high speed rail line. If you want to spend money like that, why not construct something useful? Like many desalination plants. Since water is the priority, imagine if those billions were in desalination.

Santa Barbara actually built one in 1991 during a previous drought. Shortly after it was shut down when the drought ended. They are considering spending a lot of money to restart the plant.

In the first 29 miles of building they managed to k**l a den of kit fox but I'm sure they will be heavily fined, well probably not!

Because the permitting process is lengthy to the point that by the time it's complete, the drought will be over. That's the lesson of Santa Barbara...see article

yes the permitting process is definitely a long one. I believe it was like 6 years to get through the permitting for the Carlsbad plant

==================================

Logic and common sense would have built desal plants long ago.

California's politicians don't know anything about logic and common sense.

It's not like California will never have another drought after this one. With all of the money they have wasted on their high speed rail boondoggle, they could have some serious back up water capacity instead.

They are perfectly willing to have a choo choo train that will lose billions when it begins operations. Why not have desalination plants running at a financial loss? At least you will have water.

In fairness desalination plants do put back into the ocean some nasty brine, but I don't see how that can't be dealt with. Technology, technology, technology. Liberals could put their obsession with technology to use and find solutions.

Here In Kansas City, We Are Going To Have A Light Rail
Come Hell Or High Water
Never-Mind The Failure Of Referendums
Progs Think They Are Forward Looking

Meanwhile, Our Water Infrastructure Is Over 100yrs Old.
And Much Of It Was Built With Lower Quality Materials
Due To War Shortages
Mains Blow Like Geysers All Over Town

But We Need Light Rail To Show KC Is With 'With It'....
