Any computer geeks on here? I need help.

Thru Best Buy, if memory serves, it is about $169/$179 if they install it. I don't remember if there is an additional charge for the installation.
$95 at Walmart but FREE FROM MICROSOFT if you have the Key that came with the computer, at the MS link Here:

Well, that's definitely different, but I'm glad your restore function worked. 174 updates? A copy of the OS can't be that expensive.
When you can barely afford to feed yourself, everything's expensive. Something really strange happened. after I restored it, I shut down my computer, and it started installing those updates. I had to leave, so I shut it down. When I got to Starbucks and started it up, the screen was green with something that looked like television static. Hoping the shut down was the cause (and praying that it wasn't hardware related) I did another system restore. It locked up on me and I couldn't get anything to work. I was going to take it to the shop today, but on a hunch, I started it up again and it worked fine. Even the network adapter was working fine. I'm going to take it to the shop on Monday and have them give it a good cleaning. I'm a smoker, and this thing hasn't been cleaned in over two years. I'm thinking that's the peoblem. I'm also thinking this was Gods way of telling me to take it easy. This computer has been robbing me of a LOT of sleep. I think I will heed His advice.

Now you tell me. Your CPU fan is probably all gooped up, and if it still functions, it's probably doing so poorly and your CPU may be over heating and shutting off. When it cools, it comes back on. Heats up, shuts off again. Yes, crustiness could be the problem all along.

Computer's not over heating I believe it just has so much residue from smoke and dust that it's causing problems. I'm taking it to the shop Monday for a good cleaning. If that doesn't do the trick, I'm probably looking at a hefty repair bill.

I use to have a computer cleaning business but, Obama's economy has placed me on the welfare roll.
Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty BOHICA, all my former customers, if they could ever find me, would love to thank me for being so conscientious with their electronics I'm sure!

I'd clean it myself, but it will probably require special solvents. Best to leave it to the professionals.

You are overthinking BO. A bunch of Q-tips and a cap of alcohol (nonalcoholic preferred), will get `er done.
I have cleaned many a computer gut over the years. Take it apart and wipe the dust and grime off with a cotton swab. Just like a car engine, just remember where them wires went and which direction those parts fit and you'll save a bundle.
The CPU fan is nothing to clean and, if it all goes south for ya, just blame Sheep he told me to tell you all that...
I'm teasing about Sheep, not about how to clean your machine.

Well. I don't even have the tools needed to take it apart. If it was a desktop computer, I might try it, but it's a very expensive gaming laptop.

Just put it in the washing machine. Put it in with some clothes, otherwise it will make lot of noise and you won't be able to hear the T.V.
