The problem with attempting to define love is that it will never quite fit our worldly conventions or mores about what it means to love. The idealized (sterilized) version of love we get from the Bible has to be considered optional. Its demands are utterly absurd. Die instead of fight injustice? Turn the other cheek than put the unbeliever in his or her place? Walk the extra mile than spit in the face of deceivers and evil-doers? This is appeasement! History, in the form of Chamberlain, proved this wrong, stupid, and naive. No it did not. That was not love.
The problem with attempting to define love is that... (show quote)

The love of the Bible "sterilized." "optional"? This man is utterly crazed on these two points; I need time to digest what followed.

Good luck. His brain has been 'sterilized' to the point of no longer being functional.

Welcome to the OPP. I see you are new here....

The author of this thread is rather strange, do not let him put you off. Most contributors are grounded people. And speaking of...I hope to read your comments and threads. Again. Welcome!

It does seem so. But he did make a few points I need to consider.

He needs a lot of consideration, considering his mental state.

Poppa, myself and WFOC are awaiting rumi responding to Alabuck's comment. We had an event last evening in anticipation; however, the discussion failed to take place. We still enjoyed food and libations. If the two start a discussion, we will have another event. You are welcome to join us and watch this one go on.

Thank you for the invite, but I'm really not interested in anything rumi has to say. It is mostly nonsensical and devoid of any rhyme or reason.

When you are lead down that rabbit hole, make certain you have a rope, compass, and a torch. There are cliffs at dead ends, many people go and cannot find their way out, and while wandering around you will find many dark issues, segues into unspeakable horrors and the language you are probably too much of a gentleman to repeat. Challenges await, so good luck!

I thought we agreed it would be of interest what his response would be to Alabuck's very logical comment.

Oh well, we shall see. It has been twenty four hours and nary a response.

Thank you, but I can see this guy is out there. I look forward to what you post and your comments on mine. He said some provocative things, curious items, is he really, really out there?

Let us just say that he is peculiar and roams in areas that most would consider too dark or inhospitable to venture. He has essentially two varieties of threads, but I am sure you will see that out quick enough. I too look forward to conversations with you, I am sure that we will find both avenues; those where we agree and those where we cannot meet in the middle. Regardless, it will be my pleasure.
