I don't think you're seeing the Big Picture here...things are actually proceeding according to plan, the de-stabilization of the ME, control of it's resources, and containment of blowback has mostly been successfull...this was all set in motion some time ago.. Of course the apocalyptic nuts in the Pentagon always want to ratchet things up and get WW3 going, all they know how to do is plan for world domination. Obama is hesitant to unleash the dogs because he doesn't want to be responsible for a possible end-of-the-world scenario happening on his watch. Going all-out militarily will have severe consequences, and he probably figures, let the next president take it to the next level and take the blame, because it will certainly be an even bigger mess than it is now.

I agree that murderous fanatics of any kind need to be wiped out completely. But just going in there all-out is not going to solve the problem...there will be repurcussions. As long as we continue to occupy and manipulate that region, there will be groups that form to fight us, assuring that the Pentagon and our military always have something to do. It's all madness, and at root is about money and power, as usual. At this point no one is blameless. You can't keep poking a hornet's nest then act surprised when you get stung.
