I too miss going to Mexico. I have always found the people there very friendly and accommodating. I loved Mazatlan, Cabo, and Puerto Vallarta, although the weather in Puerto and Mazatlan left a bit to be desired, too hot for my comfort. My favorites were Rosarito Beach and Ensenada, but that was because they are so close.

Yes, I don't remember when exactly my brother said they closed due to lack of tourists becuse of the drug gangs. One of my favorites was Pancho's until it became a teeny bopper place. My old standard was Manuel's on down Hildalgo street. A little hole in the wall upstairs from his little store. He did open up a bigger restaurant and club around the corner. But when things got rough with the gangs he moved it to Del Rio.
