Its those kinds of things that I think we want to try to explore so that we can make sure that people have the ability to enjoy their Second Amendment rights, but at the same time decreasing the misuse of weapons that lead to the kinds of things that we see on a daily basis, Holder said.
First of all, I have been enjoying my 2nd Amendment rights since I was 5 years old and in all that time, a million rounds out of the muzzles, I never "misused" my "weapons." I have never intentionally or accidentally wounded or k**led anyone.
Secondly, with this statement, Holder is blowing a cloud of smoke. The phrase "misuse of weapons" is a euphemism for "violent crime". The idea that developing smart gun technology will decrease gun related violence is ludicrous. As with every other technology, the criminal mind will find a way around it. Moreover, the very thought that the "smart gun" would ever become universal is utterly laughable.
Holder has stated his real objectives regarding citizen gun ownership, and this comment about smart gun technology is nothing more than his reaction to the blowback he got from legal gun owners. Holder, like his boss, is a conniving deceiver. I ain't buying his bulls**t. Seal the borders to gun acquisition, take measures to make it more and more difficult for CRIMINALS and the MENTALLY DISTURBED to obtain firearms. Do that, and the number of shootings on the streets, the Columbines and Sandy Hooks, will decrease. Though they will never be stopped completely.
Restricting gun ownership by law-abiding Americans, as statistics and studies have shown, has the opposite results. More Guns, Less Crime, by Professor John Lott is one such study.
"An armed society is a polite society."
Banning lawful private ownership is an entirely different ball game. One that has a terrible historical record.
Admittedly, there are some number of well-meaning individuals out there who legally purchase a gun, but fail to accept the responsibility for ownership, and who do not spend the time and money to educate themselves. I've had many encounters with these types, and, yes, some of them were truly stupid. But whenever I could, if the opportunity was there, I pointed them in the right direction, either offering to train them myself or recommending a formal firearms training program.
I have attended many gun shows, at some of which there were thousands of firearms openly displayed on tables and in racks, where maybe a million rounds of ammo sat on tables and shelves, and where an estimated 5000 people passed through during the day. They handled firearms, checked them out, worked the actions, and even pulled triggers. They discussed, negotiated, traded and, God forbid, bought guns and ammo. And, funnily enough, not a shot was fired, not a person wounded or k**led. How the hell does one explain that?
