Does anyone here rent their home, or apartment?
During the p******c, many people were offered the chance of a "pause" on student loan payments, just like people who paid rent. Terrific for the renters who couldn't work for several months and had their hours cut drastically for several more.

The problem with taking a "pause" on student loan payments is that it reset the clock for anyone who did it, even while the interest continued to accumulate. People wound up owing thousands more after the p******c and were paying interest on the accumulated interest which got added to the principle. That detail either wasn't explained or was glossed over.
It happens to people in the reserves who get deployed. They might be doctors or lawyers and making 6 figures, but not as an E-4 or even an O-2.
They're married and can have that 6 figure loan deferred while they are deployed so their family doesn't suffer but when they get home find out they owe thousands more because...
Interest.

I abhor the idea of my few thousands in federal taxes going to pay the salary of someone like Bobo or MTG - so I just tell myself it's going to my grandkids, because their dad is a Marine - and tell our son "You're welcome!" when he gets his raise every year. 😊

You said it yourself I'm paying taxes therefore I am paying for them. We spend millions of bombs because we supply the world, even if that means both sides. The pentagon can't even say where the money goes. I agree that money should be left with the people, not doled out by a government. Help people with what they need help with, this is better accomplished on a community level.

Tom is right. Unless you're paying millions then you aren't paying them. None of us are. Just make up your mind you're paying for wh**ever part of the budget that you approve most and move on.

How about helping the Veterans and the forgotten old people that have to spend their final years fighting just for a roof and food!
I know, there is ZERO kickbacks for the politicians!
There is no Democrat/Republican politicians, only uniparty politicians with very few fighting for what’s right.
The smart thing to do would be to v**e every single one out of office but there are way too many stupid people in this country that won’t do it.

Let me understand what you are saying. I pay taxes, taxes are paying for student loans, but I'm not paying for student loan forgiveness? I didn't realize I got to choose what my tax money pays for. If this were true I wouldn't be paying salaries, benefits and retirement for Congress or half the staff in DC.

Same here. But we aren't going to get out of paying taxes until we're dead, so I grit my teeth and tell myself OUR money is going to something I agree with.
