It has been pointed out here before that even if we taxed the upper 1% at 100%, it wouldn't raise enough money to do any good. When are you geniuses going to figure out who creates the jobs. Raise corporation taxes you say? Have you figured out yet that corporations don't pay taxes - People do? There is only one way to tackle this problem - CUT Govt spending!!!! Just do it.

Ever heard of velocity of money? Government intrusion slows it down. Government taking money out of society to distribute it to others some economists state has no net effect. Not so. A dollar circulates, on the order of through 22 hands annually. Government taking that dollar in taxation is heisting it out of circulation for a period due to how it works. A tax dollar is circulated less, at least by half due to fiscal year spending methods. This means a billion dollars in taxation changes $22 billion worth of societal t***sactions to 11. That $32 billion annually Obama's is proposing to tax on "the rich" means $352 billion worth of economic activity gets traded to $176. What a deal.

Secondary effect: Its consumption for investment. About 45 cents of "a rich" person's income lands up not only in a bank account, but stocks, businesses, real estate, even Tesla cars. A vast majority of "the rich" are in fact the kind of people who invest. US statistics show the average middle class person saves very little, and invests only through place of employment (increasingly rare) or Social Security. (That invests in special class unredeemable Treasury Notes). You take $32 billion away from our investor class, you cut that by at least $25 billion per year. To put this in perspective, this is more than three times Solar City, Tesla and Space X combined, or 60 thousand fewer jobs created paying as Musk does, and average of $28 an hour. This goes on year after year, cumulating. After ten years US society is short 600,000 direct high paying jobs and about 2X that many service jobs related to it (From Macdonald's to Fed X).

Reducing middle class tax rate just means this investment is mostly traded for consumption. US GDP slows from its already tepid Obama era 1.7% per annum to in the range of 1.5. You lost - but hey, Obama can go see Mr. Love to deal with his stimulation over feeling good about doing absolutely squat.

There is a better way:

Pass legislation privatizing Social Security. Make contributions by US citizens and resident aliens their private property. Allow recipients to pass on what-ever is left out of their funds to siblings, spouse, or significant other.

Due to an Act of Economic War by Saudi Arabia, a much more evil regime than Iran, subsidize for a time US oil, gas, nuclear, conversion of cars and trucks to LNG, and the plethora of other alternatives. Get the US totally off imported energy. This will create a million high paying jobs almost instantly. Pay for this through removing US troops stationed in Europe, Asia and the middle east in general. Let them deal with their issues. If they threaten us, to quote Gladiator's opening scene: Unleash Hell. Take these monies and use them to make us more secure. Take the extra funds, (doing this would save $60 billion annually) and reduce those middle class taxes Obama is concerned about though general tax reform. Throw out existing code for a flat tax of 12% and national sales tax between 5 and 6%. No deals for any special interest. Not for Solar City, GM, GE, or even 501-C, 3's. You do Obama era 1.7% average annual growth would double. We'd all benefit.

I read comments like yours and it simply AMAZES me. What people like YOU fail to realize is that those so called 'parasites' are the ones who do the WORK that make the 'successful, SUCCESSFUL'. I'm curious to know what is it that YOU do for a living, if you even work at all? As a person who scraped and saved to start a "Successful" business of my own, I do not have a problem paying a small percentage more, to help those less fortunate than myself. I pay my employees 10% more than the national average for those in the field, as well as other company perks, so that I can retain the best talent. What ever happened to EMPLOYER loyalty? What people like YOU do not realize is that it's those 'parasites' that you so eloquently speak of, who have to get up every morning, pay money for childcare, pay money to get back and forth to work everyday, s***e at a 'job' where 90% of the workforce feels thankless, pay for a roof over their heads, pay for food to sustain them and PRAY that they never get sick or injured. While the 'successful' sit up in board rooms and strategize about how they can SUCK even MORE money and 'production' from those that support their lavish lifestyles to begin with. Be glad someone like ME isn't President. I'd tell everyone who works for a company who makes less than 50k a year to not show up to work one day just to prove a point. Let's see how 'successful' those same companies would be without the 'parasites' who work for them. Let's see how clean and orderly the 'successful' peoples houses would be without the 'parasite' maintenance people to take care of them. Let's see how the 'successful' would react if they walked into a restaurant without a wait staff to serve them or how good the food would be without a sous chef to prep. People like YOU are what are causing the demise of this "great' country. Am I saying to 'equally' distribute the wealth? No, not at all. But at the same time, you shouldn't turn your nose up to those who are the front lines, doing the actual WORK for you.

Oh, I disagree. I think he has known right from the start how to try and destroy this country and he is using every method he thinks he can possibly get away with to do just that.
You can be guaranteed that if the policy failed, he will follow suit so we can fail! Don't kid yourself. This man is a 'clear and present' danger to this country and has been since he took office in 2009. His first act as president was to obtain a grant for $20 million which he used in 2010 to bring 80,000 members of Hamas and their families over here, putting them up in nice housing, etc. We have a rat in the cheese factory; a fox in the hen house; or more to the point, an enemy in the WH. Get it right!

Awe, common guys. Let's zip over to bankrupt California - you know the state that is the 8th largest economy in the world, the state that spends 70% of its tax revenue on education, the state that is the most top-heavy bureaucracy on earth, as attested to by its own governor, Zippy the Pinhead.

Reform education. Partner industrial apprenticeships with charter schools to recruit the best paid, and most knowledgeable science, math and technical teachers in the world. Industry will be training its own workforce and stop wasting the time and money of our parents, students and taxpayers. Case closed.
