When were you last on Padre Is. Trip? Did you go fishing and have good luck? I grew up in S.Texas Rio Grand Valley 30m from Brownsville and the Border and 25m from Port Isabel and S.Padre Is. I understand and sorry I don't miss PA and the cold...Stay Warm...Oh did you show your cattle at the Farm Show last week? We went to the Show my first year in PA(2019) and last year. Not a bad farm show setting. Of course not as big as the Livestock and Rodeo in Houston or DFW's Fat Stock Show.

I was just down in padre in december. No fishing. Did some camping. Lots of fun. I'm staying warm so far. About 25๏พright now . It's supposed to give 20 mph winds this aftermoon so we'll probably have whiteouts since the snow is powdery ๐ฃ. And i didn't even get to farm show this year.

gorgeous sunshiny day. Clear as a bell and cold as heck.... warmed to minus 4 degrees at the moment.. and what happens, a robin lands on one of the bird feeders.. fat and jolly looking, he must eat well or he simply put on an extra coat of feathers and stayed with us for the winter rather than do all that flying to reach the south...
Anyway.. have a great day, enjoy the sun and stay warm.. BTW, we got no snow but did get a bit chilly.. 19 below overnight..
in a snow drought.. only enough still around to color the ground white..

Camping is one of our favorite past times too. Actually I have 2 favorite types of camping...there is actual tenting and recently we bought a ClassC Campervan...As I get older this is the OlMan's preference
Matter of fact headed to DFW in 2 weeks for the first of the year gathering for the re-enactment group we belong to...We call the RV, the Viking longship(Raven'sGlory). I have been a medievel re-enactor since 1981.

How lucky you are.
. I might be coming down to Florida in June if everything holds out. It'll probably be hot then.

Mercy, you really tweaked my memory synapses. Our young family had a favorite spot on the Sweetwater River in Wyoming, about a mile & a half down river from Independence Rock, a half mile down River from the old cavalry post called "Sweetwater Station." History everywhere you put your foot down. Independence Rock is where the wagon trains formed leaving on or before the 4th of July to make it over the mountains before winter. There's very little evidence of thousands of pioneers except for the many many sunken graves dotting the huge area and the hundreds of names carved into Independence Rock.
We loved the place because of the remoteness, never had a single other camper or fisherman show up. The trout fishing was great, rock hunting looking for artifacts found everywhere; morning sun rising and evening settings were glorious. The cold high plains summer storms stimulated the sage to release an aroma that is forever locked in my memory banks. Wild game was everywhere to include too many rattlesnakes. I k**led every encounter with them. If I could, I would choose to be buried there, my most favorite spot in all of God's creation. I hope you, too, are making those kind of memories.
There is a book "Tending the Talking Wire" published by U. of Utah Press that tells the story about a young soldier, Hervey Johnson, stationed at Sweetwater Station build to protect the telegraph from Indians. Hervey was a Quaker conscientious objector who chose duty in the West instead of fighting in the Civil War. He grew to h**e Indians. His story is told thru many letters between himself and his sister Sybil. It's a fascinating story and book.

Itโs 57 in cally , beautiful right day! Gorgeous!
Snowing and cold here. I usually see my first robin around Feb 1. My birding friend always swears they are year rounders, as they don't migrate.
