Dave I agree with Milt.... these kids don't lack the raw intelligence , they lack raw discipline, The Marines can handle these kids, this would be well worth funding IMO.

I don't doubt they have the intelligence - I doubt they have the values necessary for any military organization to provide them the discipline. The disintegration is, I believe, worse than you think.

CowboyMilt-agree that the draft would spread the military duty across the board. However, the military is becoming more technical as we speak and I do not believe reducing standards to accommodate those without proper education is the way to go. The tech age has changed the way our Military uses personnel... The use of low tech sub contract labor while at war is staggering in cost....In the service just like high school many will graduate and go on to higher education but many will go with a trade like drive a truck.... I think these kids deserve a fighting chance to prove they don't have what it takes to serve , I think this would save tax payers many times over by reducing sub contractor cost, welfare and food stamps, as well as the cost of crime, prison and reform in society. Not all uneducated kids are bad... just desperate and swept under the rug. With the proper funding the Marine Corps can train these kids to be productive.
