Abbott is cancelling mandatory 10 min water breaks (every four hours) for Texas workers across the sate. One can come up with all kinds of excuses to do this but the bottom line is, it is politically stupid.. No different than draconian a******n laws and laws which try to prevent a woman from going to another state for her a******n. I don't support a******n but I don't think it is something we should over regulate.

Pelosi is correct when she says they will win on the wings of a******n. If republicans can't win, we can't effect positive change.

This 10 min water break ban is just as stupid.

Banning a 10 minute water break every four hours would seem to be a tough position to support but I am sure some of the i***ts on OPP can justify it.

Abbot's reason, from what I can find is to "eliminate a hodgepodge of onerous and burdensome regulations” The effort aims to prevent cities and counties from enacting progressive policies that counter the state Republican supermajority’s aims.

“For too long, progressive municipal officials and agencies have made Texas small businesses jump through contradictory and confusing hoops,” said the Republican state representative Dustin Burrows, who introduced the bill.

The question at hand is did he eliminate a "mandatory" water break or an onerous unnecessary law mandating a water break? If one needs a law telling them to take a drink of water or a break from the heat it eliminates common sense. What if 4 hours is too long between breaks during oppressive heat?

He is not banning the water break, but just not making it mandatory. Businesses can give all the breaks they want. As far as a******n, any e******n that has to be won on being soft on the k*****g of innocent unborn children in the long run will lead to disaster.

Should all onerous unnecessary worker safety laws should be abolished so the rich guys can make more money?

Denying a worker a 10 minute break water every four hours in 100 degree heat is definitely draconian.

Yes, the disaster of having an all democrat l*****t i***t government.

We could argue all day about the necessity of 10 min water breaks for workers but the visual of cancelling a mandatory water break of only 10 min every 4 hours is going to be devastating.

There you go again discharging the crap that accumulates in your head; no balance ever found in that atrophied area between your ears.

I believe the word mandatory is what is objectionable. No one is saying you can't take a water break. Seems stupid though.

It is just a power struggle. State control over municipalities.

Abbott does not want municipalities usurping his power to control all.

Ignorant statement. It's just the opposite. He doesn't want government mandating rules to business.

You set a minimum standard and you guarantee that that minimum will become the normal standard and will be followed across the board. No more. No less. Government mandates remove responsibility from employers and places it with the taxpayers. Mandates will always reduce policy to the lowest common denominator.

Typical weak-minded, dishonest ELWNJ comment - knee jerk reaction without any thought.

And again you display a lack of critical thinking sk**ls. If you ask nicely, I will explain why you are completely missing the point.
