This is the worst legislation, I am ashamed of McCain and Flake as my two senators, it should cause the end of their political careers I have called and emailed both senators to withdraw their support on this bill. It is obvious this is for Obama and special interest groups. The majority of the American citizens do not want this, I hope Congress listens. Please everyone call your senators to v**e no.

Suggestion. Find another Senator's office to call. You may ask why and I will provide the answer. Clearly your elected Senators have their agenda. There are other Senators against this. When they do a tally of phone calls on yeahs/nays, it is likely to be counted. Since you are in the SW, it could be difficult.

Senators Cruz, Paul, and Grassley immediately come to mind.

Cruz's voice mail is usually full. You just named my two prime. I have found the staff at Grassley and Paul offices to be very willing to listen.

To relate a slightly long story, Senator Grassley's office comes up. During the gun debate, I spent three hours calling Senators. Both of mine cared not a whit for my opinion and their attitude showed it. When I called Senator Grassley's office, I told the young lady I was not a constituent; however, my elected Senators carried not for my opinion. She very calmly said, " Are you a registered v**er in the United States?" I replied, "Yes, I am." She again quite calmly said, " You are our constituent as you are registered v**er with an issue you wish to be heard on." The young man in Senator Paul's office was quite welcoming to hearing my opinion.

Although I am quite verbose in writing, I write down only brief points when calling. They receive so many calls brevity seems the best approach.

Senator Cruz, being quite popular with some, and quite otherwise with others, may be difficult to contact. I did not take that into consideration, but he is foursquare against this ridiculous immigration/amnesty bill.

Someone else whose name I have seen rising is Thune. I have seen him interviewed once and found it interesting. My printed list of Senators is downstairs. I am not walking down to get it. I know he is one of the "heartland" states.

Quid Pro Quo, AuntiE & banjojack: Both our Senators here in Kansas, Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts, I believe will definitely v**e no on the immigration bill. Congressman Tim Huelskamp is staunchly conservative, and Congressman Mike Pompeo is not far behind. For most of these Congressman and Senators, you can google their name and their website will pop up. Look for "contact Congressman xxxx or Senator xxxx", click on it, and you should get an e-mail form to fill out plus your comment. Roberts only has fax and addresses, but no e-mail contact. The other 3 I e-mail from time to time on substantive issues only and usually say: "No reply is necessary or expected". Sometimes, I get a specific e-mail response. But the e-mail response I recently posted from Huelskamp was directed to all his constituents.

I have emailed both Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, and found both very good listeners. In fact I get weekly updates on their activities in Wash DC. I have found both receptive to the frustrations the American citizens have with gang of 8's immigration bill, with no border security.

You realize, of course, that in the unlikely event that this unworkable idiocy makes it through the Senate, it will not pass the House. House members, having to stand for re-e******n twice as often, tend to be more responsive to their constituents.

Must be nice. My congressman, who I feel is one of the good ones, (solidly pro gun, anti-Gang of Eight,v**ed against internet tax), recently held a well publicized town hall. Less than 10 people, including myself, showed up. I guess they had better things to do on a Saturday morning than meet with the guy who v**es on legislation that affects every aspect of their lives. If his v**e doesn't suit them, they are the first to b***h. Not TO the congressman, ABOUT the congressman. These are the same people who never call or write about any issues,(undoubtedly because they have no idea what the issues are), and who rarely v**e, but always complain, and it's never THEIR fault. Try pointing this obvious fact out to self-righteous, oblivious peckerheads, and see how far you get. They have the government they deserve. My problem lies in the fact that I have the government they deserve, also.

My House of Rep personage does an occasional meeting which is published in the community gazettes on Wednesday with the meeting on the upcoming Saturday. My schedule is such that short notice is not a problem. For families with children's activities, it becomes a scheduling issue. Again, frankly he cares not in the least for any opinion except his.

Quid Pro Quo, AuntiE: My sympathies: I have two representatives because of interests in two congressional Districts in Kansas. Both are conservative as are my two Senators. But many politicians say one thing to get elected, and then do what they want when they're elected, notwithstanding their constituents desires, except that is when its time to get elected again, and then its back to talking out of the other side of their mouth. The law profession deserves some criticism, but compared to that portions of the politicians, they on a whole probably do better. If you are intellectually dishonest it doesn't much matter what profession you are in. However, there isn't much remedy in politics except to v**e the b--tard out of office. In the law, there is a Code of Ethics that is rigorously enforced. If you violate the Code, and the court catches you, or if anyone makes a complaint to the state disciplinary committee, an attorney will have to answer and defend the complaint. The disciplinary commissioner and the committee take the matters seriously, and if they find you violated the Code of Ethics, you will be sanctioned, up to and including loss of your license to practice law. In the journalism world they also have a Code of Journalism Ethics, but they pay no attention to it as there are no sanctions for violating it. It's interesting to read and I think you can find it by googling Journalism's Code of Ethics, or Code of Journalism Ethics, or some such.
