Conservatives always figure that only "responsible" people with buy weapons but as we know from experience is that the mentally ill will be at the head of the line buying as many guns as they possibly can. Uvalde and the Allen Mall shooting are but two examples and with the Allen Mall shooting the "good guy" was there on other police business but even so, the shooter managed to k**l 8 and wound 7 before he could be k**led. Thanks to our local conservatives any i***t can buy a gun that is only suited for war which means that even if "good guys" are right there they are helpless to stop a mass shooting from occurring.

You need some new material, Peter, we've heard this outrageously irrational rant many times.

Mentally ill people do not line up to buy guns.
Conservatives have never advocated for, or passed laws, or put in place regulations that allow "any i***t" to buy a gun.
Without jumping through all the hoops and paying the fees, no civilian can legally purchase a gun "only suited for war".

DC has Draconian gun laws and low gun ownership. It also has one of the highest murder rates in the US. The per capita homicide rate in the US is a little over 6:100,000. In DC, that rate is about 27:100,000. The facts are that mass shootings almost invariably happen in gun free zones. These are not random acts, but are planned to take place at times and locations where it's unlikely anyone will shoot back.
I will give you another statistic.... Semi auto rifles including but not limited to the scary looking ones account for a little over one percent of the murders in this country. Knives, clubs and even bare hands each are responsible for more murders, every year for at least the past ten years than ALL rifles and shotguns.
Another little stat for your perusal; I mentioned the US murder rate at 6:100,000. Broken down by race it is as follows:
B****s and Hispanics comprise 13 and 18 percent of the population respectively. They commit nearly 3/4 of the murders.
W****s of European descent and Asians account for most of the rest of the population, combined about 65%. They account for less than one fourth of the homicides. In fact, the homicide stats for these two demographics are about the same as the homicide stats for most of Europe.

Which red f**g law did Republicans v**e against that would have prevented recent shootings? Source, if you don't mind.
Settling disputes? Perhaps "having a gun on YOUR hip is what YOU would consider "liquid courage." Children get shot a lot, and it's mostly in a handful of metro areas, NOT in schools. Who shoots them? Criminals with stolen guns. Now you can explain how a red f**g law that will be ignored by the most likely perpetrators will stop anything.
Too many red f**g laws are simply confiscation of guns without due process. In Florida, you make a complaint and there must be a warrant taken out. It requires a sworn statement under penalty of perjury by either an LEO, medical doctor or an officer of the court, and then must be signed by a judge. It also provides serious penalties for misuse or mischievous actions. Most proposed red f**g laws have no provision for prosecution of malicious actions. You can swear out a false warrant on someone who pissed you off and face no consequences.
This is why so many Republicans are opposed to red f**g laws. They are not opposed to the ones like Florida has enacted, which emphasize due process.

Where do you get the idea that background checks are not required? Most gun purchases do require them. As for carry permits, They are mostly a s**m to make extra money. The background check for a CCP is the same one you have to submit to in order to purchase a firearm.

As I said, Florida has the right idea. You think someone is a danger, and call the police. The police investigate, and if they think it is warranted, go to a judge and swear out a warrant under penalty of perjury. Warrant served, firearms removed temporarily until case is adjudicated. (There is also a time limit) Most proposed red f**g laws provide no penalties for false or malicious statements resulting in confiscations and only civil penalties for violation of one's fourth amendment rights. In Florida, malicious false statements like that carry criminal penalties. Make false statements resulting in loss or injury to an innocent person, your ass goes to jail.
