I know this is gonna be so different for everyone.
I was a " kid " riding around in my '56 Chevy. I had it made and didn't even know it. It was all the result of two loving parents, and a simpler time in life for me.
My draft time was up in 12/68, so I spent '69 as a return to civilian life. I turned 22 in February; my mother died 3 weeks later after a long fight with cancer; I hitchhiked cross country from da Bronx to San Fran and spent a few months going up and down the West Coast; my younger brother graduated from elementary, my sister from HS, and my older brother from law school; had tickets for Woodstock but decided not to go when I heard about the traffic and rain; had my first few tokes of a joint and did not like it; worked as a recreation teacher; got my first beater (car); took the cop and fireman tests and scored over a 100 thanks to Vet points; started dating the love of my life, the home nurse who cared for my mother: it was the very best year of my life.
