I remember the night that TWA 800 went down off the coast of Long Island. I sat up half the night switching between cable news reports to learn everything possible about the cause.

T***s World Airlines Flight 800 (TWA 800) was a Boeing 747-100 that exploded and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near East Moriches, New York, on July 17, 1996, about 8:30 pm, twelve minutes after its takeoff from JFK International Airport, on a passenger flight to Rome, with a scheduled stopover in Paris. All 230 people (from 13 countries) on board died in the crash; it was the third-deadliest aviation accident in U.S. history.

TWA Flight 800 crashed eight miles off the coast of Long Island at dusk on a clear summer night. Hundreds of witnesses saw the plane explode from either on shore, on a boat, in a plane or in at least one case, a helicopter.

There were many eye witnesses interviewed, people who lived along the Long Island coastline, who had been outside that night in July. They repeatedly said they'd seen a projectile streaking upward toward the airliner immediately before it exploded into a fireball. A few witnesses even used the words "missile" or "rocket."

There were also numerous mentions by reporters of a U.S Navy Air Drill that was being conducted that night in the vicinity. America was in a high state of alert when TWA 800 crashed because the Olympics Summer Games were about to begin in Atlanta, and that city was on alert for terrorist attacks. In the summer of 1996, Ramzi Yousef was on trial in lower Manhattan for the first World Trade Center bombing. The Oklahoma City bombing, which k**led 168 people, 19 of them children, took place the year before.

TWA 800 Whistleblower, Navy veteran William Henry Teele III did not claim to be on the ship that fired the missile. He was on the USS Carr, a guided missile frigate that was one of the “combatants” in the battle group that destroyed the unfortunate 747 and k**led the 230 souls on board.

Some of Teele’s information is in the 2016 book, TWA 800: The Crash, The Cover-Up, The Conspiracy, by Jack Cashill.

On the evening of July 17, 1996, as Teele relates, the Carr was trying out new AN/SPY-1 Alpha radar as well as new AN/SPS 49 radar. For this simulated air attack, the target was to be a drone pulled by a military aircraft using a thousand-or-so foot chain. Teele was among the personnel monitoring this activity from within the ship’s combat information center (CIC).

In the way of background, Teele joined the Navy in 1994. In 1996, according to his Navy transcript, he was serving as a “seaman apprentice” receiving advanced training in “specialized Navy occupations.” In 1998 he was made an “operations specialist,” one who, “operates radar and associated equipment; identifies and maintains a display (plot) of the movement of ships, aircraft, missiles, and natural objects detected by observing a radar.” In 1999, he was made an instructor.

In its November 1997 summary the FBI acknowledged that three submarines -- the USS Normandy, the USS Trepang, and the USS Albuquerque -- were in the “immediate vicinity of the crash site.” So too, said the FBI, were the USS Normandy, an Aegis cruiser, and a US Navy P-3 Orion. The P-3, in fact, just happened to be flying about seven thousand feet above TWA 800 when the plane was blown out of the sky.

As to the USS Carr, after undergoing major upgrades in 1995, the ship began a Combat Systems Ship Qualification Test, the goal of which was to certify her newly installed Mk 92 Mod 6 Fire Control System. In early 1996, according to a Navy history site, this testing “ultimately led to two highly successful dual missile firing exercises in the North Puerto Rican Operations area.” On July 12, 1996, just five days before the TWA 800 disaster, Commander Keith L. Wray took control of the ship.

A full four years after the crash of TWA Flight 800, the NTSB (National T***sportation Safety Board) released its official report: They offered their best theory as the probable cause of the accident, that a spark in the center fuel tank eventually led to the explosion that brought down the aircraft... though, they never found a definitive answer
on where the spark came from.

The producers of a 2013 documentary on TWA Flight 800 - claimed that a missile caused the Paris-bound flight to crash. ...And six former investigators who took part in the film said there was a cover-up and wanted the case reopened.

"There was a lack of coordination and willful denial of information," Hank Hughes, a senior accident investigator for the National T***sportation Safety Board, said during a conference call with reporters. "There were 755 witnesses. At no time was information provided by those witnesses shared by the FBI."

Jim Speer, an accident investigator at the time of the crash for the Airline Pilots Association, who sifted through the recovered wreckage in a hangar, said he discovered holes consistent with those that would be formed by a high-energy blast in the right wing. He requested it be tested for explosives. When the test came back positive, he said, he was "physically removed" from a room by two CIA agents.

The investigators did not speculate on the reasons for the alleged coverup or who fired the missile that they believe took down the plane.

After a four-year investigation, the NTSB officially claimed that the plane was destroyed by a center fuel tank explosion that was "likely" caused by a spark from faulty wiring. But according to Tom Stalcup, a co-producer of the documentary, new "radar and forensic evidence proves that one or more ordnance explosions outside the aircraft caused the crash." The film premiered on EPIX on July 17, 2013, the 17th anniversary of the disaster.

"These investigators were not allowed to speak to the public or refute any comments made by their superiors and/or NTSB and FBI officials about their work at the time of the official investigation," a news release announcing the documentary said. "They had to wait until after retirement to reveal how the official conclusion by the (NTSB) was falsified and to lay out their case."

That is a totally unproven theory (spelled cover up).

Never before had a 747 been brought down by such a malfunction, nor has one since! The multiple vivid, first-hand eye witness accounts remain in stark contrast to the "official" final FBI - NTSB (National T***sportation Safety Board) report.

At the time, it was claimed that every possibility was investigated. The government rented a 747 to recreate the flight. They placed a bomb in another and blew that up. They launched missiles to determine if eyewitnesses could spot them — they did.

Years later, Leon Panetta, Bill Clinton’s chief of staff at the time (in a p**********l e******n year), said that terrorism was initially their main suspicion.

The real-time eyewitness accounts taken by the FBI and CIA, are why TWA 800 "conspiracy theories" remain.

Witness 364 , who had once served as the crew chief of a Marine Corps helicopter squadron, was sitting on the dock of the Bellport Yacht Club with a female friend. Looking to the southeast, he “noticed an object rising vertically.”

It had a red glow and took about thirty seconds to reach its zenith, then arced downwards for ten seconds, and sped off on a flat, horizontal course for about fifteen seconds. The witness then saw a small red explosion, followed by a “tremendous” bright white second explosion, which evolved into an orange-yellow ball that fell in two pieces to the sea.

“He realized he had seen two different things,” reported the FBI, “namely the rising ‘object,’ and the subsequent explosions.”

After learning of TWA 800’s destruction, “He came to the personal conclusion that what he had seen was a missile hitting the airplane.”

Witnesses 385 and 386, a couple with their young children, were boating in the Moriches Inlet. They told the FBI that a bright orange-red glow “seemed like it came off the horizon and rose slowly, weaving as it continued upward.”

It traveled diagonally at a seventy-degree angle going in a westerly direction and left a white smoke trail in its wake. It then disappeared, and a “large oval ball of fire” appeared just above where the object was last sighted. The two heard no sound as they watched as “the ball of fire came straight down,” breaking eventually into two pieces.

Witness 491 was fishing with some buddies off a dock in Center Moriches when he “observed a red light moving up into the air.” It was moving in an “irregular type arc” in a southeasterly direction.

He followed this “red flare” for an estimated thirty seconds and felt it “was trying to follow something.” The flare then suddenly “turned into a huge ball of flame and fell in two pieces.”

This occurred on July 17, 1996, 26 years ago. Bill Clinton was the President at the time - the t***h was suppressed by Clinton's administration.

It was an e******n year, and the U.S. was hosting the Summer Olympics Games in Atlanta the following week with thousands of planes flying in from all over the world with athletes and fans. ...not a good time to admit the U.S.military had just shot down a jumbo jet passenger plane full of civilians.

There were 755 witnesses. At no time was the information provided by those witnesses to the FBI shared with the public. Certainly a good number of these people are still alive...

A former Marine helicopter mechanic came to the "personal conclusion" that a missile hit the jet.
Well, that pins it down, doesn't it? Who could possibly refute such an authority?

Why, in God's Holy name, would the US Navy intentionally shoot down a commercial jumbo jet and then attempt to cover it up? To what end? For what purpose? That notion is patently absurd.

Never before had a 747 been brought down by such a malfunction, nor has one since!
Not true. Cargo door failure causing explosive decompression has brought down 747s, DC10s, 737s and other types.
For example: South African Airways Flight 295, a B747, experienced a catastrophic in-flight fire in the cargo area, broke up in mid-air, and crashed into the Indian Ocean east of Mauritius, k*****g all 159 people on board

NTSB’s TWA Flight 800 Reconstruction to be Decommissioned

2/22/2021

WASHINGTON (Feb. 22, 2021) — The National T***sportation Safety Board announced Monday its decision to decommission the TWA Flight 800 reconstruction as the agency prepares for the expiration of the lease for its Ashburn, Virginia, Training Center.

The reconstruction, housed in the 30,000 square foot hangar along with other training tools at the NTSB’s Training Center, has been used in the NTSB’s accident investigation training courses for nearly 20 years. However, advances in investigative techniques such as 3-D scanning and drone imagery, lessen the relevance of the large-scale reconstruction in teaching modern investigative techniques.

TWA Flight 800, a Boeing 747, bound for Paris, France with 230 people aboard, crashed July 17, 1996, minutes after takeoff from John F. Kennedy International Airport. After an exhaustive, four-year-long investigation, the NTSB determined the probable cause of the crash was an explosion in the center wing fuel tank. Evidence indicated the explosion was the result of an electrical failure that ignited the flammable fuel/air mixture in the tank.

“The investigation of the crash of TWA Flight 800 is a seminal moment in aviation safety history,” said NTSB Managing Director Sharon Bryson. “From that investigation we issued safety recommendations that fundamentally changed the way aircraft are designed. The investigation also led to a memorandum of understanding between the FBI and the NTSB regarding investigations of accidents resulting from intentional acts as well as evidence collection and preservation. That investigation also led to the equally important development of our T***sportation Disaster Assistance division and the legislation in place today governing carrier responsibilities for family assistance in the wake of a t***sportation disaster,” said Bryson.

Blade,

I didn't say or even insinuate that our government deliberately shot down TWA 800, nor, to my knowledge has anyone else. I have no doubt it was an unintended accidental result of inept planning and poor performance during a training exercise off the New York City coastline, a place of heavy commercial air traffic, and a very questionable location for a surface to air missile training session.

In the above posted report by NTSB, there is nothing definitive by way of explanation, nothing scientific, only a theory, with no proof offered, and the 755 eye witnesses who were outside at dusk on the coastline of Long
Island on July 17th, or on boats, or in planes (one on a helicopter) who reported seeing a missile like projectile ascend toward the plane, followed by an explosion and fireball, were each and everyone ignored.

"There was a lack of coordination and willful denial of information," Hank Hughes, a senior accident investigator for the National T***sportation Safety Board, said during a conference call with reporters. "There were 755 witnesses. At no time was information provided by those witnesses shared by the FBI."

After a four-year investigation, the NTSB officially claimed that the plane was destroyed by a center fuel tank explosion that was "likely" caused by a spark from faulty wiring. But according to Tom Stalcup, a co-producer of the documentary, new "radar and forensic evidence proves that one or more ordnance explosions outside the aircraft caused the crash."

I searched for and read through all the online reports of 747 failures and crashes. There was no comparative crash or incidents resulting in a fire and explosion in the gas tank, attributed to an electrical fire caused by a supposed spark of unknown origin in any other aircraft.

I saw the report by the infamously progressive/liberal Southern Poverty Law Center denouncing WND for "being "dev**ed to manipulative fear-mongering and outright fabrications designed to further the paranoid, gay-hating, conspiratorial and apocalyptic visions of Farah (who runs WND) and his hand-picked contributors from the fringes of the far-right and fundamentalist worlds."

I rarely read the WND, but I know that Joseph Farah is consistently conservative, right-wing in his politics and a devout, evangelical Christian of Syrian and Lebanese ancestry.

I just saw that Wikipedia calls Jack Cashill a "Conspiracy Theorist," but Wikipedia is operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, - a benefactor has been the ‘Open Society Institute,’ now known as the Open Society Foundations, founded and funded by the chairman of Soros Fund Management LLC, George Soros.

I had never heard of Jack Cashill until today, but can find nothing objectable in the following
beginning paragraphs from two Articles he posted online in the last few hours:

Why Ray Epps Matters

"Like Alger Hiss before him, Epps has come to bear the weight of a powerful narrative. For those who do not know who Ray Epps is and why he matters - and this includes most Democrats and many journalists - U.S. Representative Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) served up a handy reference guide last week. Gosar did this in the form of a resolution of inquiry (ROI) directing Attorney General Merrick Garland to hand over all documents relevant to the Epps case within 14 days."

Italian e******n was a win in the REAL World War III

"War has engulfed the Western world, a cold war at this stage, but a war nonetheless. What makes this war different from any that preceded it is that alliances are joined not between nations but between peoples of those nations. The sides are drawn. The g*******ts have the resources. The nationalists have the will, and they also have a new heroine. In the space of just a few days Italy's Prime Minister-elect Giorgia Meloni has emerged as an international conservative superstar."

I personally find nothing objectable in either article, but I'm quite sure the entire liberal/l*****t world, with their supposed superior intellect, would sneer at them.

https://thenewamerican.com/confirmed-us-navy-shot-down-twa-800-families-file-suit/?mc_cid=66794ec97e&mc_eid=e6e307fb77

This additional verifying information was published yesterday, September 30, 2022, in "American Thinker," by Jack Cashill, containing a wealth of additional detail, Peewee.

Based on the research of physicist Tom Stalcup, the lawsuit filed by the Boston firm of Bailey and Glasser, on behalf of numerous family members of those k**led in the 1996 crash, is stunning in its sophistication and in its detail...

The suit wastes no time in establishing its central argument: “After the incident, the federal government released a false report contending that the explosion was the result of an electrical fire in the airplane’s center.” The real cause, the suit argues, was “an errant United States Navy missile fired at aerial target drones flying nearby TWA 800.”

Based on the “overwhelming evidence” uncovered by Stalcup through his Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation in Massachusetts federal court, the suit names as the government defendants in this tragic mishap the Missile Defense Agency, the United States Department of Defense, and the United States Navy.

The contractor defendants cited are Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. Working “side-by-side,” these defendants were reportedly testing the Aegis Weapons System and firing SM-2 missiles with live warheads at aerial missile targets off the coast of New York “in close proximity to commercial airline flight paths.” The suit leaves open the possibility that more than one “warship” was involved in the launch.

The suit walks through the well-established facts surrounding the investigation. The FBI froze out the National T***sportation Board despite the NTSB’s legal responsibility to manage domestic air crashes. According to the suit, “The FBI also enlisted the assistance of the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”).” Yes, the CIA was involved from day one, but I suspect that “enlisting” the agency was not the FBI’s idea.

The suit adds new information, namely that “the FBI removed all copies (original and duplicates) of Navy radar tapes from the Navy, placing them out of the NTSB’s reach.”

The suit addresses the CIA animation used to discredit the scores of excellent eyewitnesses, but adds this detail, “Despite outwardly proclaiming that the cause of the TWA 800 explosion was, in the CIA’s words, ‘not a missile,’ several internal government communications (that have only come to light in the recent FOIA litigation) indicated that a missile was involved.”

The suit reviews the history of the Navy’s Aegis Missile system responsible for the misfire. The Department of Defense (DOD) pushed the system quickly through production and deployment thinking of the missile threat from hostile countries in the “here and now.” Although the suit does not mention this detail, there was a real fear at the time of terrorists using planes as missiles, a fear that proved tragically well-grounded five years later.

The radar needed particular upgrading of “its ability to operate close to shore and to properly integrate into existing systems.” This helps explain why the Navy was testing in a crowded air space. To address the deficiencies, the DOD directed its contractors to integrate a new radar and computer system into all new ship designs, known as the SPY-ID(V).

“In 1996 the only option with the hardware and computing power sufficient to operate the SPY-ID(V),” the suit claims, “was a New Jersey land-based testing site called the Combat Systems Engineering and Development Site (“CSEDS”).”

Rather than wait five years for ships to be built with the computing power to operate this system, “The SPY-ID(V) was tested on an expedited basis in and around the CSEDS in New Jersey, in a highly congested area.”

“In 1996,” the suit continues, “the Defendants began testing the SPY-ID(V) using ‘simulated and actual targets’ in and around New Jersey. Stalcup unearthed evidence that the testing of missiles with live warheads began as early as May 1996.

The suit talks about the videotape shot by an electrician on the roof of Long Island hospital. The fellow was recording the sunrise and inadvertently captured a missile test off the Long Island’s south coast, and this just five days before the TWA 800 disaster. Despite that tragedy, the suit contends, the Navy continued to test its missile system in that same commercial corridor.

The suit cites the testimony of Steve Habeger, the Executive Director of CSEDS’s sister site in Virginia. Habeger testified in Stalcup’s FOIA suit that he “was personally aware of at least a dozen Aegis missile tests off the East Coast of the United States around this same overall time period.” Habeger also testified that within minutes of the disaster, he was ordered “to allow the FBI to remove all Navy radar tapes from his facility that might have recorded the TWA 800 incident.” His commanding officer and FBI custody records corroborated his testimony.

Stalcup also discovered that the Joint Terrorism Task Force directed the FBI to obtain original Navy radar tapes showing an object “heading straight for TWA 800.” The FBI confiscated these tapes immediately after the crash. They show “an object ‘impact’ TWA 800, which directly contradicts the FBI’s, CIAs, and NTSB’s public conclusions that what caused the incident was ‘not a missile.’”

Stalcup adds the technological details of how the systems work and why there was such urgency in deploying them.

In last several years especially, many patriotic Americans have come to the reluctant conclusion that, yes, the government is capable of lying to us. Some of them have first-hand knowledge of TWA 800’s demise. In the final analysis it will be they who provide the counterweight to the powerful forces that want this lawsuit to fail.
Summary: “The evidence reveals that TWA 800 was brought down by a missile and the government hid this t***h from Plaintiffs and the public at large for over twenty-five years.”

This conspiracy theory has legs!
It has been around for a long time. The goverment agency who investigates crashes, says it was an explosion in a fuel tank. I searched for TWA flight 800 shot down factchek and I got lot of articles, pro and con.

I had this one figured from the get-go.

Hiding the T***h was determined to be a matter of "National Security", as the Navy was testing an entirely new
submarine launched anti-air missile, in violation of an ABM Treaty that the US then had with Russia, and thus the T***h became "Top Secret".
