Yeah.... another job you wouldn't qualify for due to your lack of common sense combined with a CAN'T do attitude.

Yep, that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it!!

The pioneers took full advantage of lakes, rivers and creeks to cool themselves off in the summer.

Sweetwater Creek is my personal air conditioner.

I've got a spot at my camp where I sit in the creek on a big rock.

Just a bit upstream from there is a great little swimming hole.

The creek has gotten pretty low during this drought, but it's still flowing and the water is cool.

In the northern states we have basements that stay naturally cool and dry. I know many southern areas don't have habitable basements because the winter frost doesn't go deep enough to require one.

When I was a child we had no AC, almost no one did. We played with stuff in the basement on sunny days and played outside when cloudy.

I slept in the basement on an air mattress a few nights in summer. My brother wouldn't for fear of ghosts, but they never bothered me. Bugs neither. My parents had a big box fan in their bedroom window.

The evenings were always a nice cool time to sit out on the patio but it never got cool in the house.

Fans on long sticks? Do you mean leaves?

And the people who were waving those sticks were called "s***es".

It gets hot and muggy in Georgia. When my A/C went out, we ran several fans and took numerous cold showers during the day.

Besides all of the answers previously given, I remember living in homes with window fans, 'swamp/water-coolers', or attic fans. I suspect, Arch, as we both grew up in Texas, either you or your parents remember those options prior to AC. As I remember doing the same thing (in the past and on camping trips), I personally liked Wolf's response.

I do believe that was the inference. For l*****ts there are only 2 classes of people...the oppressed/the oppressor.
L*****ts should calm themselves, 50-60 years ago, lower income people with no air-conditioning, fanned THEMSELVES not others, and most people had electricity! But, quite frankly I have a hard time fondly reminiscing about blistering hot summers with no air-conditioning. Can people live/thrive with no ac...sure and learn to make the best of it. I do take issue with the temperature being so cool when ac is in use. We would be able to get more acclimatized if the temperature was 105 outside, and inside the ac made it was 75 or so instead of 68. IMO it helps if it's cooler, but it doesn't need to border on chilly/there doesn't need to be a drastic difference in the temperature

I do believe that was the inference. For l*****ts ... (show quote)

On hot days my mom or dad would put out the oscillating sprinkler along with buckets small pools and other toys. We played for hours in the sprinkler and with each other, and then when we were tired out, we had a picnic on a blanket under the shade with watermelon and PB&J sandwiches...and then we took naps during the hottest part of the day. Dinners were usually something on the grill outside with ice cream deserts down at the beach. I have fond memories of those hot days.

Population and manufacturing growth in the South can be directly correlated to the invention and proliferation of air conditioning.

Ms Macho, do you live in Florida without a/c? Why are you trying to tell everybody how they should live. Where do you c*******ts get off with your bs?
