They just keep upping the tax on everything and adding new taxes on things they haven't taxed yet.

So who did Gruesome Newsom steal the money from to build such a fragile and vulnerable surplus?

Biden recently suggested that he wants to “make America California again”. Yet before leaping on this particular train, he should consider whether the California model may be better seen as a cautionary tale than a roadmap to a better future in the digital age.

The on-the-ground reality — as opposed to that portrayed in the media or popular culture — is more Dickensian than utopian. Rather than the state where dreams are made, in reality California increasingly presents the prototype of a new feudalism fused oddly with a supposedly progressive model in which ine******y is growing, not falling.

California now suffers the highest cost-adjusted poverty rate in the country, and the widest gap between middle and upper-middle income earners. It also has one of the nation’s highest Gini ratios, which measures the ine******y of wealth distribution from the richest to poorest residents — and the disparity is growing. Incredibly, California’s level of ine******y is greater than that of neighbouring Mexico, and closer to Central American countries like Guatemala and Honduras than developed nations like Canada and Norway.

It is true that California’s GDP per capita is far higher than these Central American countries, but the state has slowly morphed into a low wage economy. Over the past decade, 80% of the state’s jobs have paid under the median wage — half of which are paid less than $40,000 — and most are in poorly paid personal services or hospitality jobs. Even at some of the state’s most prestigious companies like Google, many lower (and even mid-level) workers live in mobile home parks. Others sleep in their cars.

The state’s dependence on low-wage service workers has been critical in the p******c, but it now suffers among the highest unemployment rates in the nation, outdone only by tourism-dominated states like Hawaii, Nevada and New Jersey. Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood, now has the highest unemployment rate of the nation’s top ten metropolitan areas, higher even than New York.

But that hasn’t stopped California from portraying itself as a progressive’s paradise, publicly advocating racial and social justice. The state just passed a Racial Justice Act to monitor law enforcement, endorsing r********ns (although California was never a s***e state) and is working to address “systemic” r****m in its classrooms. This “woke” agenda was taken to a new extreme this week when the San Francisco School Board decided to rename 44 schools because they were named after people connected to r****m or s***ery. The district’s Arts Department, originally known as “VAPA”, also decided to re-brand because “acronyms are a symptom of w***e s*******y culture”.

There is much more, but what's the point?

Guess Nancy made sure Newsom got plenty of the trillions in c***d relief funds to replenish their coffers. They sure didn't get it from all those small businesses they shut down or bankrupted in 2020 and 2021. Not to worry though. I'm sure they will blow what's left in short order and be calling for more tax increases to cover their butts.

People want services’ but they don’t want to have to pay for them. Cheap electricity. Poor infrastructure.

California has not only the most homeless people, but the highest percentage of homeless in the US. They have the highest tax rate in the country. Hundreds of businesses are leaving. They have billions in unfunded pension payouts that are not being considered.

The surplus must be why masses are exiting California then.
Amazing how Clinton boasted a surplus but left out hundreds of billions in the military war funding.
So what's being left out?

It isn't hurting us, trump spent more against i******s than simply getting them through a system and making sure any allowed to stay were productive.

California contributes way more to federal government than it gets back, we are subsidizing red states that are on the dole bigly. You don't think California has a serious burden by people on welfare? And here we have people worrying what this state does?

That was a surplus after the military was funded, and it wasn't Clinton that rushed in to cut taxes and end that surplus was it? That was Bush, and Bush left office with a $1.4 Trillion deficit, not including extras.

As I have said, deficits are one of the most misunderstood things by the right.
