I'm not sure what is meant by the term "hacking" in this instance.
If a comment I want to reply to is short, I click on "quote reply" and change nothing. If the comment is quite long - as too many are on OPP, I will retain 1-2 paragraphs, as originally written, so that it is clear to whom and what I am responding, and I delete the remainder. Seeing constant repeats of comments that run a a page long seems silly, and in my view it k**ls a thread - at least it does for me. I don't know if others view this as "hacking", but I do not consider it hacking. I will say this: if we MUST run the entire LOOONNNNNGGGGGG comment every time we respond to it, I won't be responding at all. I'll go elsewhere.

Can I ask a question? Is this an actual hack? Or is the poster hitting quote and then changing the original quote?
Anyone can do that. Although it is a pretty despicable thing to do to change a mans words like that.
I believe that is what they are doing. I have accidentally started my reply in the middle of the oroginal post to which I was responding and not realized it in time to correct it, but i think several people are doing it on purpose.

Several people have done this on occasion. Most no longer post on opp. If it gets to be habitual report it. Administration will look into it,especially if cuss words are used.

So far no one has included curse words to a "rewrite" of anything I have said. That might be too obvious Or then again, maybe not!

I see no reason why we should keep a very long post as is in a reply when deleting most of it still serves the purpose of letting people know who you are replying to. I don't consider that hacking. However, changing the persons words and then replying to that is not only uncalled for, it is showing just how low a person they are. It is very easy to do and anyone can do it, but only a low life would actually do something like that. They think they are being cool, but in reality they are just showing their stupidity when doing something like that.
Problem is, the media is great for doing that. They can take a recorded interview and make it sound like something else if they get the right response out of someone. They also change things around in a printed post so that it is a down right lie, but then they are not known for honesty these days.

I too have typed something decided I didn't like what I had typed started erasing and then gone too far accidently erasing the last line of what the other poster and typed.

Most of us do that when it is really long. That's different from purposefully changing some of the wording or removing parts to change the meaning

I doubt that anyone would consider that "hacking" but maybe if you follow at the end of what you "have" included -- the "...." then it will be understood that the post you are responding to just goes on and on and on....

I have seen some people when posting a large number of paragraphs instruct people to cut into their post or reply at the top of their post.

Searching let me try something. I am going to see if I can change your post without anyone knowing idf I did it.
You see I can change the wording but you can tell who did it by looking at my name or avatar.
Well now, tis a done deal, is it not. An eye opener to be sure.....
