I started this topic to criticize what this district is doing to address the problem of Black Students not learning algebra. Maybe my ideas suck, but they are better than the school's ideas.

I got a D- in pre algebra in my first semester of high school. Never took another math class. One week before graduation I was called into the deans office. He told me I wasn't graduating because I was required to have two years of math and I only had half a year You would think they would have told me sooner.

I was not a particular brain in school, but sometimes something clicked. 8th grade algebra came so easy to me, and I saw many smarter kids who just could never grasp substituting letters for numbers. I felt super smart until I got put in the back of the class for 9th grade geometry. In one year I went from Wiley Coyote Super Genius to dunce.

You probably just needed glasses for your near sightedness.

No. All of the class clowns were in the back. There was no learning going to go on back there. No idea why the teacher suddenly threw me back there. Guess I was ugly. Then again 9th grade pretty much sucked all around. French, English, and Geometry all barely passed.

I had excellent eyes as a kid. I could look into the sun with no ill effects. I didn't get glasses until my late 20s.

I volunteered for the back of the class in every class. It was punishment to sit up front. Only one teacher made me do that . I quit going to that class.
