General Chit-Chat (non-political talk)
Well, evidently, law enforcement doesn't have to follow the rules of the road, or have a sense of humor

I'm out running errands today all over town, and had my route planned out till I decided to deviate a little since I hadn't been down that road in a long time. It's just a 2 mile cut across, narrow, 2 lane little road, and I wanted to see if anything has changed. At the last stop sign leaving civilization, a Deputy Sheriff pulled up behind me. No big deal, except that she literally rode my bumper for a bit, and it got my dander up.
After the stop sign, I noticed that the road had been re-striped with a double yellow paint. I can't call it a line, because it is as crooked as a politician, if not more so.
With her on my bumper, I started following the painted lane marking without crossing the paint. Whoever drove that paint truck must have been HAMMERED!!!!
Long story short, I was pulled over for driving erratically, and harassed beyond my own belief.
It took 3 of em. Yep, two more showed up to handle this dangerous sumb***h!!
I was compliant with them, and I was still put in cuffs while they searched the vehicle of this offender of following government painted lines. They wanted field sobriety tests, I said get the thing and let me blow in it. They mentioned pills, and stuff. I told them arrest me for DUI, take blood, and get ready to defend your actions.

I'm a little pissed right now.

Law enforcement does have to follow the rules of the road and you can ticket them for tailgating but you better be able to prove it by witnesses or a rear dash cam. Had a friend, a law student, do this many years ago and he won in court.

If they want to get their ticket quota for the day and they pick you, they will find anything they can and it is impossible to drive perfectly.

I remember once going down a very crowed two lane road in Chicago. Traffic finally came to a stop for a red light a block away. But it was right by my dead end street and I signaled a right turn and headed right. He was right on me and got out very irate and demanded my license. I gave it to him and he went back to his car and wrote the ticket. Came back and handed it to me and drove off with my license. In Illinois it is customary to give up your license as bond and you can drive with that ticket. It was my girlfriends car and I asked her about the signals. Worked fine the night before. I looked for the fuse box and immediately found the blown fuse. I then went to the Police Station and demanded my right to post cash bond instead of surrendering my license. Forced the son of a b***h to return to the police station and return my license. He wasn't happy. In court they went at me for failure to signal and I simply pulled out the blown fuse and showed it to the judge and I was out of there. Loved it, but still a waste of time just so some asshole could prove he was.

I do not blame you. I just got through paying a $189 speeding ticket. This is the second ticket I have gotten in 50 years of driving. The ticket was for going 46 mph in a 35 mph zone, entering the small town of Nixon, Texas. The last speed sign I saw was for 50 mph, so I thought I was going well below the limit. The officer was very professional, but I feel like, with my record, I could/should have been given a warning. I did not go back and see if the 35 mph was actually posted or not. The last, and only other ticket I got was in 1982, again in a small town I was traveling through, and again for going faster than the posted speed. But in THAT case, I DID go back and look, and there was no sign. However, when I talked to the judge about it, I was told that I was responsible for knowing the town's speed limits, sign or no sign. City hall CAN be beaten, but is it worth the effort? Sometimes, I guess, but not for me, and not over a speeding ticket.

I got pulled over for doing 52 I think it was, in a 35. I had just come off the interstate and there was no speed limit sign posted. When the deputy pointed out that GA speed limit inside city limits absent a sign is 35 I pointed out there was no city limit sign either, and then I pointed to the pasture with cows in it we were sitting next to. Not what you'd call city limits with no notice. Most of the time if there is no notice given you can beat it.

Be glad you didn't have a large amount of cash on you or they would have seized it by civil forfeiture claiming you're a drug dealer. Really crazy. Sometimes the police do none headed things. A son of a friend of mine was stopped. The police said there was an outstanding warrant from 1990. His son said that count have been him because he was only two. The policeman said well tell your father there's a warrant out for him. Reason, a burned out light bulb in a rental apt (from 1990) that didn't get fixed.

See, your first mistake was complying with the officers...

You should have fought and cursed and maybe pulled a weapon...

Being Texas I'm sure you would have been gunned down...

But then we could hold some mostly peaceful protests in your honor...

Ummm...You still identify as a gay, black, t***sbinary border hopper, right???

In all seriousness, that sucks... Some folk let a little power get to their heads...

Crack a cold one and hammer on a few lefties in the OPP

Maybe I was. I don't know. But there was no reason for that lady to ride my bumper. She ran my tag at the stop sign, and knew I was clean, yet rode my ass.
In retrospect, maybe I should have jumped on the brakes, and made her rear end me.

Back in the seventies, I was arrested in NC for non payment of a speeding ticket in VA from three years previously. I got a ticket in VA for doing 58 in a 55 on my f*cking wedding night, believe it or not. I told them if they expected payment they could extradite me from New Mexico. The ticket was for $18. There was a bench warrant issued on me and I was arrested in North Carolina (I was visiting family) over an unpaid $18 traffic ticket that was three years old. I spent the night in jail over that. Can you spell chickens**t?
Yes, this is a true story. I cannot make up something this incredible.

In GA, a rear ender is always the fault of the car doing the rear ending. I don't know about Texas. You want chicken kacky, check out my post to permafrost. I DID get put in jail.

They actually thought I might be armed, and just wasn't telling them, so they said. I have that card I carry that says I carry, but I don't always carry.
The lady was the problem. She was pissed because she had NOTHING for the stop, and was over ruled by a superior, and I left with a verbal warning to not follow crooked lines on the road.
It was STUPID!!

She had a gun. I didn't so a sandwich was out of the question. Best I could hope for was a good frisk, but no!! Had to wait for a guy to do that!! He was semi-gentle. He stopped digging in my ass once he hit his elbow on my tailbone.
