All I listened to was the opening comment and stopped.

Do you believe in open borders? If you're a follower of Jesus you realize that's unbiblical?

I did not get as far as you did.

Can't do it. I'm a Texan, and an American. Not a "citizen of humanity." There are borders around my country, my state, my county, my property, and my personal living space. I believe in borders.
I reckon I must be "inhumane."

There are too many crazies in the world not to have borders. Too many who just want to take from others rather than contribute to others. If human nature rejected theft and sin, there could be that utopic world of no borders, no possessions and no wants or needs. But as every single attempt at that form of world has failed and instead yielded only death and suffering, we can see that we must maintain our borders and respect the borders others have established.

The very existence of countries like China who move to achieve world dominance is evidence enough that it is not an achievable goal. And I certainly wouldn't equate the citizen of humanity with patriotism; being patriotic to humans. It is humanistic and undercuts much of our devotion to a higher being/higher calling.

Arch, it shouldn't surprise you that I'm with you on that matter. It does surprise me that one would allow the last sentence of the first paragraph define the entire narrative of the interview with Mr. Sjursen. There is much more to the interview than that. It does make me question how many responders read the complete interview. The subject matter is the nature of patriotism and dissent...not borders.

BTW, you should realize that my high regard for you wouldn't allow thinking of you as "inhumane'.

I read the whole thing. What I found interesting is its highly partisan. Everyone has their own definition of what it means to be a patriot these days with many shades not so easily and neatly defined. For anyone to diminish what others feel about their country is suspect. But he is trying to sell a book. Lol

We all have our opinions.

Where do you go with it if you don't follow JC, laws of men and society?

Yes, Rose, everyone does. Yours, as well as others (even if in disagreement) are always welcome. I only ask that any articles/interviews are read prior to commenting.

BTW, one of my takes from Mr. Sjursen's interview is that many who claim to honor Vets only do so when said Vet follows one's own approved, partisan script for patriotism.

That is true however there are also many who don’t care about them in the first place. Politicians make the pretense of caring for photo ops and during e******n time.

Mr. Sjursen made several comments concerning the perceived faux patriotism of politicians and media talking heads. In varying degrees, I found him critical of both ideological camps. Hell, there was even a light shot taken at famed writer Norman Mailer, himself a USMC WWII Vet.

Nice interview...

Didn't much care for the interviewer, he made his bias rather plain.. But I loved the interviewee... Good, critical thinking sk**ls articulated there...

Two quotes:
"The vaunted patriotism of the right is about self-adulation. It is a raw lust for r****m and violence. It is blind subservience to the power of the state and it works to censor the reality of war and shut down the voices of true patriots"

This is absurd and demonstrates that the interviewer has had little or no contact with the majority right... I'm surprised they didn't edit this...

"And if one thinks that the war in Afghanistan was ever about women's rights, I mean, that is so paltry intellectually that it's almost hard to imagine because why did we only go in for vengeance after we were attacked?  Because women were being executed in stadiums long before that.  And we also have told our own soldiers to turn the other--turn an eye away from a massive buggery, right?  Massive child rape of our "allied" m*****a and warlord.  So this is--this is a myth and this is a fiction, and it's dangerous as hell."

I've pointed this out numerous times... And it needs to be repeated until people wake up...

Thank you, CD, for taking the time to read it and offer commentary. I pretty much align with your assessment. Mr. Sjursen seems a fine patriot.
