And than there is GOD!
God only exists to those who believe in him. Atheists think they control their own lives. Modern man certainly has tamed nature with his science, technology, and brains. Primitive man lived a life where nature was constantly trying to k**l him. Luck and chance played a large role in his every day life. Eventually he came to believe in God because he saw that the good and the bad that occurred to him and his tribe were not just random, blind stupid luck. There was a conscious will that could be felt that controlled his fate.
Modern man has his machines and toys to take care of him. He thinks he rules, and has fewer times in his life when he is at the mercy of blind stupid luck, so he does not see the hand of God. God is not amused.

A few points of clarification if I may…. GODs existence doesn’t depend on man’s beliefs….. GOD is real. We all
control our lives…. Called free choice. Where some miss the point…. Evil is also real! Luck is a man made concept used to explain what is not understood. Just some thoughts.

I concede your point on God's existence. My point is about perception. While we live if we do not accept that God is real then for us he is not there. Then the random events that we do not control are controlled by luck, chance, or an unconscious uncaring fate.
The more educated, powerful, tech savvy, safe, or wealthy a human being becomes, the more likely they are to reject the belief in God. The more uncertain his daily life is, the more he feels the need to pray. The older I get the more I remember the close calls in life. I did a lot of stupid things and if somebody up there didn't like me, I 'd be dead or paralyzed.

I was non religious when I was safe, secure, not taking risks, and things in general were going great. When you live long enough, your safe places go away, and you must put your self out there into the sea of unknown like the rest of the plankton and be subject to the storms and tides of forces you have no control over. Then your own strengths and brains don't mean as much as hope and faith. If you don't get dashed into the rocks like much of the other insignificant micro critters all around you, you get religious real quick.
I plan to have one of my daughters over for Thanksgiving. I hope you will have family to share your giving thanks day.

Those storms and tides are called life….the good and bad times result from the dualistic 3 D world we live in. No family…. Having friends over. Enjoy the Day!

I plan a relaxing day. I fed the birds this morning which means I also fed the squirrels. It was cold this morning/ When it warms up I will rake leaves. Some i***t ( me ) planted 2 sugar maples to make maple syrup, 30 years ago. I no longer do the maple syrup, but sugar maples keep their leaves long after wimpier trees. That means the leaf raking season is extended to the end of November. I don't mind it so much when I have off, which I do until next Tuesday.

Next year is the theme. Next year I will get a leaf blower. Next year I will finally retire. Next year I will have the time and money to hunt properly. Next year I will buy a pick up truck. Actually that next year was 7 years ago. I've had 37 years of next year years.
My wife and I still rake, but I dislike how she rakes. Some leaves are wheel barrowed to the back yard to be composted for the garden, but most go into the front street for borough pick up. The problem is we have stones on the front curb and she can't rake the leaves in to the street without raking my stones with them. She leaves me to do that. She leaves me giant piles to deal with after work.
I finally found the simple solution to getting the leaves over the stones without moving them. So simple I cannot believe I never did it earlier. My neighbor was doing it, and well duh, that was obvious. Rake the leaves onto a canvass tarp and slide them out into the street. If I had half a brain, my name would be Joe Biden.
I have you beat. Here in Florida, we have these damn Oaks that shed year round. I have a small yard with 3 large Oaks.

Thank God you have a small yard then! Can you use a blower just to push them around and then get them up?

Nope. But my wife can.
Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

But I bet the oaks were there before you. I planted the sugar maples and the leaves are not the biggest problem. I failed to consider giant trees too close to the house. I had them topped once. Likely a second expensive topping will one day be in order.
