I do like that idea. Some would argue that's not a 'real' flat tax, but a stepped or graduated flat tax makes a lot of sense to me. It would be much simpler than the rube goldberg system we have now and wouldn't take as much to administer, as you point out.

Tax accountants, however, may not favor the idea. LOL.

You got that right! Talk about a messy transition period! However, it could be handled. I would prefer a flat 15 or 20 percent for EVERYONE. However, 15% from the very poor is food and medicine money, so we can give them a break. Someone advocated that income below a certain level, say $25K/year, not be taxed. But Rush Limbaugh had a great and accurate notion that EVERYONE should pay at least a LITTLE. It is human nature to feel that something is partially yours if you are helping support it. To that end, I put in the small low income steps, and it would include eliminating the ridiculous practice of the earned income tax credit.

I agree that everyone should have some skin in the game, even if only a token amount, for exactly the reason you cited...ownership in our system and country. I'm not all that well versed in tax policy and laws, so whether the EITC is folly or not, I can't say.

FYI, in case you did not know, the Earned Income Tax Credit is a method by which the low paid and occasional workers, who have taxes taken out of their pay, can not only get ALL of it back when they file, but they can get extra cash back. For example, if Jo Blow earned 9 grand in 2020, and $600 was taken out by his part time employer, when he files he could get a refund of $2000! (This is not a specific example, and the numbers may be off, but that is the way it works). It is a back-door welfare program of the progressives. It does some good things as well as bad, but the problem is that it is a semi-hidden give away program, and it is easily abused.
This is a good site to look at for more information:
https://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/what-is-earned-income-credit/
Here is one quote from the article:
How Do Earned Income Tax Credits Work?
If you qualify for the EITC, you can apply the credit directly toward your tax bill. For example, if you owe the U.S. government $2,300 in taxes for 2020 and you qualify for an EITC of $3,584, the U.S. government owes you $1,284. Because the EITC is a refundable tax credit, you can receive this money as a tax refund.
Income eligibility for the EITC is based on your adjusted gross income and your earned income.

There is a couple I know. They both receive disability income for mental disorders. He is mildly bipolar and she is mildly neurotic. He works $10-$12 per hour jobs when he can get them, and seems unable to keep a job over a few months. She stays home and watches the kids......and they have eight of them and are trying for another. They are nice people, but basically they are making their living by raising kids, most of whom are educationally and socially dysfunctional. They have a fairly decent live style...not well off, but not too bad. They drive an older van, live in a four bedroom rent controlled government housing project, and have multiple flat screen TVs, cell phones, computers, etc. And every year they max out on the EITC and use it to splurge on luxuries or make a trip.

That you don't like the 'MSM' isn't news. What's the big deal?

I didn't read anything in the link that suggests any wrong doing by anyone. So you think the media 'covered up' a non-story. How about a link to something that proves Biden corruption? Perhaps the lawyers who were able to convinced all those judges that the election was stolen would be helpful....

Oh wait....

How about a video of Capt Stupido bragging about how he held back funds from Ukraine to stop an investigation of Hunter. Starring Joe Biden. Dumb butt got on video to show how wonderful he is. A good start.
NOT showing a story to squash it is a coverup BTW.

The latest government data show that in 2018, the top 1% of income earners—those who earned more than $540,000—earned 21% of all U.S. income while paying 40% of all federal income taxes. The top 10% earned 48% of the income and paid 71% of federal income taxes.

Who is the highest taxpayer in the US?
In 2018, the top 1 percent of taxpayers accounted for more income taxes paid than the bottom 90 percent combined. The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid roughly $615 billion, or 40.1 percent of all income taxes, while the bottom 90 percent paid about $440 billion, or 28.6 percent of all income taxes.

The data demonstrates that the U.S. individual income tax continues to be very progressive, borne primarily by the highest income earners.[2]

Summary of the Latest Federal Income Tax Data, 2020 Update,
In 2017, 143.3 million taxpayers reported earning $10.9 trillion in adjusted gross income and paid $1.6 trillion in individual income taxes.
The share of reported income earned by the top 1 percent of taxpayers rose to 21 percent, from 19.7 percent in 2016. Their share of federal individual income taxes rose to 38.5 percent, from 37.3 percent in 2016.
In 2017, the top 50 percent of all taxpayers paid 97 percent of all individual income taxes, while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 3 percent.
The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (38.5 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (29.9 percent).
The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a 26.8 percent average individual income tax rate, which is more than six times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (4.0 percent).
https://taxfoundation.org/summary-of-the-latest-federal-income-tax-data-2020-update/

More than 100 million U.S. households, or 61% of all taxpayers, paid no federal income taxes last year, according to a report from the Tax Policy Center.
The pandemic and federal stimulus led to a huge spike in the number of Americans who either owed no federal income tax or received tax credits from the government.
The main reasons for the spike — high unemployment, large stimulus checks, and generous tax credit programs — will largely expire after 2022.
The top 20% of taxpayers paid 78% of federal income taxes in 2020, according to the Tax Policy Center, up from 68% in 2019. The top 1% of taxpayers paid 28% of taxes in 2020, up from 25% in 2019.

Rudy had Ukraine put together that crap mixed in with some actual hacked e mail, but it was so amateurish that no reputable news source would touch it.

It's been on Fox, Newsmax and OAN, but then you wouldn't know that, would you. CNN wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole because it doesn't follow the left's narrative.
