In their defense, I don't know if I could have lived through some of the things that I know my father and grandfather went through. There was a lot of tragedy. A lot of untimely deaths. Some of them are recorded in the cemetery behind my grandparents home. In their places I might have been psychotic or at least drunk some of the time.
Yes. I agree. I also broke the pattern of abuse and alcoholism. Seeing some of the things that went on in both my parent's households with adult eyes gives me far more empathy for them.
