With apologies to Shakespeare… (paraphrasing Hamlet's soliloquy)

'To vax, or not to vax, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of not getting v******ted,
Or to take arms against an unseen foe
And by vaxing, end them. ...'

Ah, the question that so many are asking these days. "Should I or shouldn't I?"

Among the anti-vaxers, there seem to be four categories:

First, those that say that they won't take the v*****e until the FDA gives final approval. It doesn't matter to them that the millions of people that have already been vax'd have had very few bad side effects, and that getting C***D is not only horrendous, but expensive. And you can die from it.

Second, there are those that are opposed to any vaxing at all, based on erroneous information that v*****es cause autism; that Bill Gates is injecting microchips into everyone for mind control; that the government is secretly altering our DNA to make us more docile; [add your favorite conspiracy theory here].

Third, those that just consider it to be their right to refuse medical treatment at all. "The government isn't going to tell me what to do." This does not take into consideration the rampant t***smissibility of the v***s, and what that can do to their family and friends, never mind the community in which they live. They claim that either "God will protect them", or "When it's my time, then I'll go", or some such. They usually recant these stands just before they get put on a ventilator.

Fourth, there's the ones that just don't give a s**t about much of anything except to exercise their right to pursue anything that they want. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally comes to mind as a prime example of this. Not many v******tions, not a mask in sight, and super-spreader status to the rest of the country.

There are instances across all four categories of people begging to be v******ted on their deathbeds, only to be told that it's too late for that. There are also many occurrences of deathbed conversions, where someone says "God, I wish I'd taken the v*****e when I had a chance. Go do it."

Of course, not wearing a mask is right up there in lockstep with getting v******ted. The reasons are just as varied for this, as for not getting the jab.

The first three categories have at least a vestige of being persuaded to get the shot, but the fourth category is probably beyond saving.
These are the folks that will refuse to abide by any rule or regulation that they can avoid which keeps them from going after their hedonistic pleasures. The Sturgis crowd is notorious for this. It was classified as a super-spreader event last year, and this year promises to be as effective in v***s t***smission or more, considering the Delta variant is many times more virulent in spreading than the strain that existed last year. Their motorcycle gangs are called "Outlaws", "Cossacks", "Mongols", and (most famously) "Hells Angels", for a reason.
These are the same people that screamed bloody murder when they were required to ride with helmets a few years back. "I'll be damned if I'm going to wear a 'skid lid'. I can't hear, and it interferes with my feeling the wind." Of course, they then sometimes wind up in the ER with a fractured skull requiring massive surgical procedures to repair, along with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars that the taxpayer usually has to pony up to cover the hospital's expenses. But they just don't care, and usually go back to the behaviors that got them there in the first place.
OK, so you get the idea that I'm averse to motorcycles. Actually, I'm not averse to motorcycles, just the mindsetof some of their riders. There are millions of responsible riders out there, but that minority makes it difficult for the rest of them.
But I digress … only to point out the mindset.

There is such a thing as civic responsibility. It's part of being a member of a society. Part of that responsibility is looking out for the common good. It's the part of citizenship that these anti-vaxers keep forgetting. They forget that the "common good" is an overriding principle of a civilized society. Public health comes right up there as a reason for applying this principle, if not for the community, then for your own family and friends. These deathbed conversions mostly have a common theme, "I wish I'd gotten the shot for my kids and family."

I'm personally at a loss for figuring out where these people are coming from. If only from the possibility of contracting C***D and the possibility of dying from it, you'd think that self-preservation would at some point enter into their equation, but obviously it doesn't.

I implore those of you that haven't gotten the v*****e yet, to please, PLEASE, do so. Not only will you be doing yourself some good, but your family, friends and community will benefit as well.

The CDC Director just said that the v*****es are working great. If you get the v***s your symptoms will likely be greatly reduced, and you may spend less time in the hospital. What we can no longer say is that the "v*****e" prevents you from contracting, or t***smitting the v***s. So this is a therapeutic, you can hardly call something a "v*****e" that doesn't prevent the contraction or t***smission of the v***s. And there are other therapeutics that haven't k**led 4,500 people.
